Abstract [en]

In this qualitative study I have interviewed four students who all are in fifth grade. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze children’s perspective on their individual help in school. The children who are participating in this study all have different individual help and therefore re-tells four different realities. Individual help is everything from having an educator present to avoid getting into trouble, to another child who get more challenging tasks. The results have been divided into three areas where the individual help, participation, and relations were discussed and analyzed. The results showed that children's perspectives and experience of its individual help are highly individual and vary depending on internal factors of how children perceive themselves, and external factors such as the school's standards affecting the child. One result in the study is how the school and friends' expectations affect children's perceptions of themselves and how they perceive their individual help. Despite the children's different experiences all share the same positive views on their individual help. The children turned primarily to their family to find support and security when they felt a need to talk about their help, it was only one of the children who mention its friend as a support. I chose to do my study in a familiar environment, and the children were selected after a careful selection where the children would reflect the purpose of the study. The essay's conclusion shows the need for more research on children's perspectives on their individual help and foremost it requires more research into the way special education can be available for all students and not only to those students who have the diagnosis or the students not reaching the schools educations goal.
