Sune Bergström (1916–2004) was a Swedish biochemist and Nobel Prize laureate (1982) for his work on the compounds known as prostaglandins widely distributed in living organisms. Other work dealt with the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids. Bergström was dean during1963–1966 and president 1969–1977 of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and chairman of both the board of the Nobel Foundation 1975–1987 and WHO Advisory Committee on Medical Research 1977–1982.
