Varför blev Nathan Söderblom ärkebiskop?
2015 (Swedish)In: Ecclesiologica & alia: Studia in honorem Sven-Erik Brodd / [ed] Erik Berggren & Maria Eckerdal, Skellefteå: Artos & Norma bokförlag, 2015, 15-31 p.Chapter in book (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

Why was Nathan Söderblom (1866-1931) appointed Archbishop of Uppsala 1914? The essay shows how the Archbishop simultaneously was the Chancellor of Uppsala university and thus its foremost representative. All the Professors at Uppsala University as well as the Uppsala diocesian clergy and the Swedish diocesian chapters were in different corporations entitled to vote in the election. The professors corporaton put Söderblom as numrer one, but the other not. The state wanted no conflict between the new Archbishop as Chancellor and the University. That is the reason why he was appointed by the King even though he was not the candidate preferred by the chuch for that office.
