Abstract [en]

This bachelor thesis has been performed at Atlas Copco’s assembly department in Tierp, during a period of ten weeks. Lean production is an important part of their daily operation. Several other big Lean projects have been completed, where among other things, takt time has been introduced at several of the assembly lines. The Tensor-testing area is the part of the factory where all Tensor-tools will be tested. The Tensor-testing area was excluded from the Lean projects, as big improvements were in motion parallel with the projects.

The aim with the bachelor thesis was to do a feasibility study with the following problem definition: Can the Tensor-testing area be included in the takt time of the assembly lines? If yes, how could it look like? If no, which changes can be implemented to make it possible?

To answer the problem definition, different activities have been made. A two daylong practice has been completed. A time study was made and the collected data, in combination with available test data from Atlas Copco’s database, was compiled into bar graphs. Normal distribution diagrams were created to simplify discovery of possible deviations. Simulations have been completed based on orders and delimitations. Suggestions for improvement were made, which were related to where you could see a lack of capacity. New simulations were performed based on these. From the conclusion, the Tensor-testing cannot be takted with the conditions that were; further work is necessary. The work is more a general study and not a detailed one. The reason was because of delimitations that have been necessary due to lack of time. The simulations which have been done, has created a model for further work. As there are many different types of products, other types of production sequences could be of interest, and be tested by using this model. Recommendations for further work have been made in the form of suggestions for improvements. The suggestions have theoretical support, which show that there is potential to include the testing in the takted assembly lines takt time.
