An analysis of arguments relating to the requirement of sterilisation among trans people in order to change legal gender. The arguments, requirements and alternatives are analysed to see the political reason behind the requirement. Two time periods are analysed starting durin the time of the laws proposal and debate in Riksdag. This focuses primarily on the argument of lineage and complications in the family line. The second time period focuses on the early 21th century, nearing the abolishment of the law. This focuses on the arguments for the law to remain, very much mirroring the previous time period.
Confusion about trans issues and "obviousess" contributed to the idea that trans people themselves wanted sterilization and without it, it would be chaos in the family order, despite this being objected to by both activists and lawmakers during the laws inception.
