Abstract [en]

This thesis work has been conducted on the behalf

of the Swedish Defence Material Administration,

within the department of Soldier carried weapon

systems. The study covers weapon accessories for

the general purpose machine-gun, FN Mag 58. The

task has been to analyse the existing accessories

and compile possible improvements. Furthermore a

new concept for carrying ammunition was also to be


The specification for requirements have mostly been

created from analysis off previously conducted trials

and reports. But also after discussions with

employees from FMV and the Swedish armed forces.

The process of rendering concepts has been in line

with Ulrich and Eppingers product development

theories. Where the larger concept has been broken

down into smaller projects. Evaluation of concepts

has been conducted with Pugh matrixes. To further

validate critical solutions in the concept,

calculations and trials have been performed.

The result consists of documented suggestions for

improvements on the existing accessories and a

technical description for a new carrying system for

ammunition. The technical description is

supplemented by a Solidworks CAD model to further

show function and form with greater detail.

The emphasis in the solution has been to create a

flexible and modular system.
