Europeiska politiska partiers inställning till immigration
Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Political parties across Europe take different positions on the immigration issue. What is ultimately determining the policies advocated? While research has not agreed on whether the positions that political parties take on immigration issues can be understood from their positions on the traditional conflict dimensions, or if these issues are unrelated, the existing empirical data does not contribute to more clarity. This quantitative study examines the positions of European political parties on immigration policies and their relation to several factors. This study indicates that socio-economic interests take second place to socio-cultural beliefs. At the same time, exogenous factors show an effect, even if the relationships were not always the expected.
