Abstract [en]

This book is the first summarizing study of the Swedish Church history for the period c 1860-1910, a volume in the great series "Sveriges kyrkohistoria" (i.e. Swedish Church history from mission time until today). This period is the time of transition from Lutheran unity to the beginning on religious pluralism with free churches and roman catholic church in Sweden. The free churches criticized the Lutheran baptism, eucharst and ministry. The christianity in Sweden also was criticized by the socialists and free-thinkers. The clergy was in duty obliged to the Lutheran confession. Many new initiatives was taken, also by pioneering women

This period also was the first time of church renewal in the so callade "parish movement" (församlingsrörelsen) with many new activities (sunday school, youth groups, church choirs &c) and the new esablished diaconate. There also was a worship- and liturgical renewal.
