”Enklare, oftare, snabbare”: En statistisk analys av resandeförändringarvid busslinjeomläggning i Västerås

This Degree Project aims to find out howthe number of travelers changed in thepublic transport system in Västerås whenthe line network was redrawn in theproject SmartKoll. For a start of thisthesis, a description is given of thecentral parts of the redrawing of the linenetwork and changes in the publictransport system in Västerås. The data ofthe numbers of travelers before and afterthe redrawing constituted the firstestimation of how the numbers of travelershas changed.

In order to explain the changes in thenumber of passengers, two factors areidentified which are supported by thescientific research to be assumed to havean influence on the numbers of travelers.These influencing factors are headway andtravel speed. The two factors are thenused in a correlation analysis using bothPearson product-moment correlations andSpearman rank correlation. The correlationanalysis is aimed to see if there is anysignificant correlation between theinfluencing factors and the number ofpassengers. Finally, this thesis containsa regression analysis that intends todevelop mathematical models whose purposeis to describe the relationships betweenthe changes of the two influencing factorsand the number of passengers.

The result showed that the number ofpassengers has increased by 7 percent, asan average of the areas. The influencingfactor headway had a statisticalsignificant correlation with the number ofpassengers and was thereby the factor thataffected the numbers of travelers themost.
