    Abstract [en]

    This paper is about save systems and will analyze save functions in various games. Save systems in games are usually blamed for harming the suspension of disbelief as it is an act taking place outside the game and should only be used for its intended purpose: letting the players store their game data, and progress whenever they need.

    The game save function developed as rapid leaps of technology were made, with the beginning era of home consoles and home computers allowing players to spend more time playing, creating a demand for longer play sessions in games which lead to a need of methods for storing game data.

    The analysis of save systems is carried out in this paper by using MDA Framework (Mechanics, Dynamics, Aesthetics), a tool used for documenting game design. This framework can be used to analyze a game from a designer‟s or player‟s perspective. By reversing the framework ADM (Aesthetics, Dynamics and Mechanics) one can analyze the user experience, which is how the player perceives the game‟s aesthetics to be, depending on the dynamics and mechanics.

    This analysis aims to provide knowledge of how consistency in game design and the save system can be used to create a cohesive game world that facillitates the player's experience and immersion.

    Nuclear power has been an important part of the electricity generatingin Sweden in almost half a century. However, the use of nuclear powerraises many complex issues such as economy, accident risks, andradioactive waste management and storage. Nuclear power has thereforebeen debated intensively in Sweden as in many other countries since the1970s. Several countries have changed their nuclear policy and starteddecommissioning programs following the nuclear accident in Fukushimaback in 2011. Citizens' support for nuclear power has declined worldwidein last few years, including in Sweden. This study aims to investigatethe perception of nuclear power among engineering students and showsthat the majority of engineering students, who generally are positivetowards technology, have been affected by their surrounding and areagainst nuclear power. Engineering students in general, both supportersand opponents of nuclear power, agree that Sweden should gradually phaseout nuclear power and replace it by renewable energy sources.

    An estimated 450 million people globally do not have access to a fixed or mobile broadband signal. Recently satellite communication companies announced the concept of Megaconstellations which are large networks of inexpensive low Earth-orbiting satellites. These constellations aim to provide internet access across the planet. Many people believe these constellations will offer an opportunity to bridge the digital divide between developed and developing countries. However, according to the UN development agenda, it is crucial to harmonize three core elements: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection, while achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Although many are enthusiastic about the possibility of closing the digital gap, some researchers have concerns about the environmental impacts of these mega-constellations. Some studies explored howsatellites’ mega-constellations would increase the collision rate among space objects. This by increased amount of space debris which would negatively impact the Low Earth Orbit and the planet and thereby would be inconsistent with environmental sustainability. This study aims to investigate this claim by examining the impacts of future capabilities of satellites on offering inclusive healthcare and education systems while investigating their environmental impacts.

    Abstract [en]

    People these days are able to buy almost anything online. With a continuously increased E-commerce, small and medium sized companies (SMEs) feel obligated to enter the competitive E-commerce market. Moreover, for small companies with little or no experience in e-commerce it could become overwhelming to get a web-shop up and running. One important tasks in managing a web-shop is to register products into the system. This must be easy and efficient. The focus of this thesis is to answer the question "How can user-centered design principles improve productregistration, particularly in the SME context?". At the start of this study, surveys and interviews were conducted, which showed that product registration is very time consuming at the moment. User tests were conducted to measure the efficiency and the general usability of a system maintaining over 100 active web-shops. Based on the results of the first iteration of the user test conducted, design changes were proposed and implemented. A second iteration of the user test showed improved efficiency and substantially less errors. The most important new design elements were related to navigation, workflow and adjustment of input fields to the data sources. Thus it has been shown that the threshold for SME web-shops to go online can be lowered by a systematic application of user-centered design of the user interface.

    In many corporations, sustainability has become an important activity to focuson, with the aim of preparing corporations for the future. Foresight, a newerfield, is increasingly becoming an important activity of corporations, with thepurpose of surviving long-term. These motives make companies’ involvement with corporate sustainability and with corporate foresight fundamental. However, because foresight is a recent field, it implies processes that are less mastered by professionals than sustainability.

    Since the motives of corporate sustainability and corporate foresight are similar, the purpose of this thesis is therefore to understand if corporate sustainability can contribute to corporate foresight implementation. Specifically, the purpose of this thesis is to identify which corporate sustainability (CS) activities can be integrated to which corporate foresight (CF) activities, to facilitate and foster foresight.

    Consequently, the contributions of the research consist in extending the knowledge about sustainability as a foresight activity and in proposing suggestions to incorporate sustainability to foresight activities.

    This study reviews several CS frameworks and several CF frameworks, provides a deeper understanding of the underlying processes needed for the implementation of CS and CF, and identifies the similarities. The study specifically builds on the Maturity Model of Corporate Foresight from the book Corporate Foresight – Towards a Maturity Model for the Future Orientation of a Firm from Rohrbeck (2010). Based on the theoretical findings, qualitative interviews of sustainability professionals are carried out. Those interviews are meant to test the theoretical findings.

    The research provides knowledge on the management of corporate foresightby providing insights on foresight practices that benefit from incorporating sustainability practices. The conclusion of the paper consists in a model thatpresents explicit ways in which corporate sustainability contributes tocorporate foresight. In fact, it is shown that corporate sustainability fosters strong internal and external networks and creates a corporate culture favourable to change. Internal and external networks facilitate cross-functional collaboration and communication; and employees favourable to change are more open to new ideas; both being key for foresight implementation. Thus, Corporate Sustainability supports Corporate Foresight because it sets up a favourable corporate culture, and because it paves the way for appropriate work processes (internal and external collaboration for instance).

    Function as a Service is a new addition to cloud services that allow a user to execute code in form of a function, in the cloud. All underlying complexity is handled by the cloud provider and the user only pay per use. Cloud services have been growing significantly over the past years and many companies want to take advantages of the benefits of the cloud. The cloud services deliver computing resources as a service over a network connection, often by the Internet. To use the benefit of the cloud, one can not just move an application to the cloud and think that it will solve itself. First of all, an application needs to be optimized to be able to take advantages of the cloud. Therefore, together with Tieto, a microservice architecture have been the main architectural pattern when Function as a Service has been evaluated. A major problem with applications, both application built with a monolithic and microservice architecture, is to handle great amounts of information flows. An application may have scaling issues when an information flow becomes too large.

    A person using Function as a Service does not have to buy, rent or maintain their own servers. However, Function as a Service has a certain memory and runtime restrictions, so an entire application cannot be applied to a Function as a Service. This thesis examines the possibility of using Function as a Service in different architectural environments and estimating the cost of it. Function as a Service is a new addition to cloud services, so cloud providers are also compared and evaluated in terms of the Function as a Service functionality. Function as a Service has been tested directly on various

    cloud platforms and even developed and executed locally, encapsulated in containers. The results show that Function as a Service is a good complement to an application architecture. The results also show that Function as a Service is highly flexible and cost-effective, and it is advantageous compared to physical servers and Virtual Machines. Depending on how a function is built, the developer can lower the cost even more by choosing the cloud supplier that fits best for their use. With the flexibility of Function as a Service, applications can handle greater information flow without bottlenecks in the infrastructure and therefore, becomes more efficient and cost-effective.

    Project managers typically work under constant and strict time, money and quality pressures which can, alongside other factors, lead to professional ethics within the project environment taking a backseat. This paper provides an overview on ethics; project management and ethics within project management with focus on the conventional vs. alternative deliberations taking place in this field of study. Fixed codes of ethics; rationalist-derived standards which are imposed on the field vs. Aristotelian (and other accounts of) virtue ethics are covered. The paper also provides an account of the epistemological shift that has been deemed necessary due to the existential disruptions being caused by the rising rates of failure in projects across multiple industries under the conventional metalanguage: from a natural sciences perspective toward a more existentially-derived phenomenological attitude in the hopes of coming to a better theoretical and practical understanding of project management. The paper finally utilizes a phenomenological analysis methodology after interviewing seven experienced project managers working in different fields while summarizing the two splits present throughout the paper in a Dreyfusian-helped Coeckelberghian framework: with the ultimate aim of seeing how the phenomena of ethics are being experienced from within the project management practitioner world.

    The definition of environmental sustainability has emerged strongly in the past decades. Industrial organizations worldwide have gone through a number of changes to take their social responsibilities and maintain sustainability by, among other things, replacing the conventional energy-based applications by renewable energy-based solutions. A so-called hybrid power system for electrification, consisting of wind turbines and solar panels, was developed by Vertical Wind AB to be installed on rooftops of residential buildings. The present thesis project analyzed the willingness of the large real estate companies in Uppsala region to adopt the new concept for electrification and conducted a market research on the new developed wind turbines, by Vertical Wind AB, in addition to solar- and wind resources in the target locations. It turned out that the willingness of having such a power system for electrification was high but not extremely high as expected and the hybrid power system was perceived as any other product or investment on the market where profitability is the vital decision parameter while the environmental aspect was slightly considered.

    Prosumer with demand-response:Distribution network impact and mitigation2013Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    This report is the result from a project funded by ELFORSK done by STRI. Theproject is studying the effects the introduction of so called “prosumers”(customers with own production) and electrical vehicles will have on differenttypes of networks. Four different cases are studied: covering urban and ruralareas with different types of customers.In the urban areas the power through the transformer will be the limitingfactor. The major impact in the cases studied is from the introduction ofproduction from photovoltaics at the customer-side of the meter. This willresult in an introduction of surplus due to production which in one case led toan increase of the absolute power through the transformer with more than30%, which resulted in transformer overloading.In the rural areas the voltage drop or rise will be the limiting factor. The casesstudied had already high voltage drops even in the base cases. In the casestudies it was seen that the voltage drop could be slightly reduced whenintroducing more local production, but the production also led to that voltagerise could appear. As a result the interval of the voltage variations wasincreased, which in turn leads to difficulties with designing the network suchthat neither overvoltage nor undervoltage occurs.Introducing control algorithms had a very positive effect on reducing the netproduction from the photovoltaics. Using both hard and soft curtailment madeit possible to remove all overcurrents or overvoltages. Using hard curtailment,where all production is turned off during overcurrent or overvoltage, leadshowever to a large reduction in energy from renewable energy sources.Therefore soft curtailment should as much as possible be used.The control algorithms studied for reducing the net consumption had a morelimited effect and even resulted in an increase of the maximum netconsumption. When trying to reduce the net consumption during an overload,the reason of the overload could only be moved in time and not removed as inthe case of reducing the net production. And since often the period duringwhich the power exceeds the limit is longer than the number of hours possibleto move the energy, sometimes moving the energy had an adverse effect.The model used for controlling the net consumption needs furtherdevelopment, but it is still possible to draw the conclusion that this type ofcontrol offers only limited possibilities for mitigating overload or undervoltage.The effects of introducing prosumers and more electrical vehicles as defined inthe selected cases did not show any alarming results in this study. However,studies to learn more about the possible consequences of changes atcustomer-side are important to be able to handle the impact of such changeson the network.Further future studies needed: database with load and production data;improved control algorithms; demonstration project; experience from othercountries and studies on reactive power compensation.

    Abstract [en]

    The COVID-19 pandemic had a worldwide economic effect, and it seems to have produced a challenging economic climate for startups to work in. Thus, the aim of this degree project is to investigate how startups survived the financial and organizational crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and what was the role of their employees during the crisis. The objective is to look at how early-stage startups in Greece are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, whether they can utilize crisis management models, and how the crisis encourages creative destruction. Schumpeterian innovation theory has been merged with crisis management theories to achieve this goal. The thesis employs a qualitative methodology and uses a multiple case study design where cases are the individual startups interviewed. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with a top-management representative of each company. 

    The results indicate that the startups under discussion are experiencing significant changes. At the beginning of the crisis, they faced a threatening disengagement and demotivation of their employees, which they managed to overcome by focusing on their wellbeing, coaching them, and guiding them through the crisis. The Caplanian model was utilized to analyze their approach. Based on the companies’ core competencies, they are actively pivoting to emerging business models and new markets. These companies are discovering new possibilities and innovating in a number of areas, following both the Schumpeterian evolutionary theories of creative destruction and creative accumulation. Overall, the findings suggest that in responding to the crisis, startups modified and strengthened their strategies. The shift in customer purchasing behavior was a major reason why businesses needed to develop their strategies. The modified consumer behavior was the outcome of actions taken by the Greek government and the Public Health Agency to avoid the spread of the virus such as social distancing, travel bans, and closed borders.

    Abstract [en]

    Epiroc Drilling Tools is a manufacturing company that produces tools for rock mining and excavation. The company adopted the principles and framework of Lean Product Development in their R&D department with few practices of an agile framework called Scrum. These agile practices are used in the pre-study phase or the knowledge value stream of their lean product development. Hence, this research is limited to the knowledge value stream within the R&D department.

    The use of agile project management in manufacturing industry is unique and majority of the agile frameworks are specifically designed to suit the needs of software development companies. Several theories like Scrum, Lean, Kanban and DSDM were studied by the researchers to scrutinize the current framework of the department. The challenges and the similarities of the currently used framework with several other agile frameworks and the companies are discussed. Several qualitative research methods were adopted to know the viewpoints of the working employees in the department which are compared with other companies like Volvo Cars, ABB, LShift, EnergySoftware and from another division of Epiroc called Rocktec Automation who faced some similar challenges while practicing agile project management. After further research on the theories and comparison of the process, roles of the working employees and documentations within the knowledge value stream, DSDM had more similarities with the currently used framework than Scrum. This allowed to recommend ways that can fill the missing gaps using practices of DSDM without altering the existing working procedure in the knowledge value stream. This ensures that the improvement in the knowledge value stream remains continuous. On the contrary, a brief discussion is included on whether there is a need to be agile for manufacturing industries or is it just a changing trend in the field of project management.

    Work with sustainable development can result in several benefits to an organization and is above all important when it comes to the organization's opportunities to handle the changes in the world around it and survive in the long run. Previous research shows, however, that it is not an easy task to conduct successful work with sustainable development, partly due to conflicting aspects and lack of guidance regarding which strategies, methods or activities that need to be implemented to achieve the desired result. Making decisions regarding how competent work with sustainable development should be conducted and developed is therefore difficult, which is why a case study has been carried out in order to assess how a specific organization can develop the work with sustainable development based on the benchmarking method Sustainability Progress Indicator Comparative Evaluation (SPICE). Based on this method, which is specifically developed for benchmarking regarding organizations' sustainability work, several of the mistakes that can undermine an organization's work with sustainable development could be studied and assessed. In this way, it became possible to assess the current situation of the specific organization based mainly on public information, but also to identify differences in performance and learn from the competitors in the energy and communications industry who have come further with their sustainability work. It then emerged that the organization's competitors are making more progress and conducting more extensive work with sustainable development, which was judged to be due to the specific organization lacking sufficient knowledge in the area. Due to the fact that knowledge, constant learning and development work form the basis for successful sustainability work, training of the organization's employees was therefore recommended in the first place. How the organization's sustainability work should be developed thereafter is not answered by the case study, however, which is why the necessary guidance to some extent is still lacking. It is therefore important that further investigation is carried out.

    Since its discovery, graphene and its oxidized form, graphene oxide (GO), have attracted interest in a wide range of technical applications. Concerns about their potential toxicity calls for scrutinized studies, but hitherto conflicting results have been reported which partly may be due to variations of synthesis and exposure procedures. Here we report on the attachment and toxicity of contamination-free graphene oxide nanoparticles (GONP) in living lung epithelial cells. The synthesis of chemically pure GONP was made by an improvement of the Hummer's method based on graphene exfoliated from graphite using high-intensity ultrasonication, resulting in two dimensional sheets with a lateral dimension in the range 200 nm to 3 mu m and thickness of 0.9 nm. Confocal Raman spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis was used to study the interaction of GONP and living cells. It is shown that overlapping Raman bands due to GONPs and biomolecules in the cells can clearly be separated with this approach. Orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis was used to compare spectral data collected from cells exposed to GONP with spectral data collected from non-exposed control cells, and spectral data from cells exposed to a surfactant known to induce apoptosis. Our analyses show that GONP readily attach to the cells, forming sheets which cover a large fraction of the cell surfaces, and induce small chemical changes. In particular, chemical modifications of proteins and lipids in lung epithelial cells are inferred. GONPs do not, however, decrease cell viability. In contrast, enhanced cell proliferation is observed. Our results shed new light on the interactions of GO, and in contrast to some previous reports, suggest that GO is not toxic. The hyperspectral Raman spectroscopy analysis employed here should be applicable for other fields in nanomedicine as a label-free non-perturbing analytical method.

    Understanding how innovation and renewal occurs in an industry is important for how to manage technical development for individual companies. It is also important for creating a beneficial industrial context for renewal, from both a political and an industrial perspective, in which new solutions can arise and spread through the involvement of several actors of the industry. How innovation and renewal occurs in the construction industry in Sweden is however viewed differently. One challenge that has been pointed to is that most of the work performed in the construction industry is organized in projects, which in turn should affect how innovation and renewal can be achieved.

     

    The aim of this thesis is to provide an understanding of how the project organizing in the industry affects innovation and renewal. This is executed through a case study of the construction of Skandionkliniken, a proton therapy clinic, and by using an industrial network theory that challenges the traditional view of how innovation is achieved. One important understanding drawn from this study is that renewal is created in the interface between companies and their resources. The kinds of innovation and renewal that can take place in the projects highly rely on technical interdependencies and organizational features of the involved actors. Three conclusions are drawn from this study; firstly, innovation and renewal in the construction industry occurs gradually across projects, secondly, the type of innovation that occurs is not what is expected from a traditional point of view, and thirdly, therefore it is not necessarily obvious when or how it takes place, which has implications both for policy and company management.

    This paper sets out to problematize and further develop the concept of workification in studies on the intersection of play and work. The literature on workification is scarce and focuses mainly on how game design transforms potentially playful activities in games into work-like tasks. In this study, which utilizes material from interviews and autoethnography, we illustrate the transformation of a World of Warcraft Classic guild, evolving from an informal gathering of friends into a structured organization with clear hierarchies and defined functions. By adopting the theoretical perspective of dominant logic, we show how the governing values and decision premises of the studied organization create a balancing act for management. The differing values of individuals within the organization led to the creation of administrative tools and rules to govern the organization’s members. Our conceptualization of workification emphasizes how aspects traditionally related to work – such as task management and organizational hierarchies – are being employed by guilds to enable new ways of enjoying the gaming experience. Committed players devote time and effort to producing spreadsheets, codes of conducts, and performance indicators, in addition to actually playing the game. While this may detract from the ‘magic’ of the game, we argue that workification can also offer new opportunities for playfulness and enjoyment.

    The construction industry stands for a third of the total carbon dioxide emissions globally , this includes the building process as well as the usage of the buildings. This in combination with the need for renovating older buildings in Sweden can lead to additional stress on the environment. This project aims to map out the decision-making process for property owners and consultants when working with renovation projects. The purpose of the study is to identify problematic areas that hinder efficient decision-making and sustainability efforts. With the problem areas mapped out, different solutions containing artificial intelligence will be explored and discussed. Ethical implications with the implementation of artificial intelligence will also be discussed in this study. In this qualitative study, a set of steps were taken to answer the research questions. Firstly, a literature review was conducted to explore existing research. Secondly, semi-structured interviews were held to gather empirical data. Lastly, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed with thematic analysis, to identify problematic areas in the renovation projects. The research strategy applied for this study is abductive. Due to the existing pandemic, the usage of software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been used to conduct the interviews. The results show that the factors hindering the decision-making process were regulations & laws, economy & sustainability, lack of recycling, and lack of documentation. These were areas that both the consultants and property owners described as bottlenecks in the decision- making process. Artificial intelligence solutions were discussed for the problem areas regulations & laws and economy & sustainability because there is statistical data that could be used for training an artificial intelligence, unlike the other two problem areas that have to be dealt with manually due to the neglect of workers. The artificial intelligence solutions presented in this study can be considered ethical due to their assisting purpose. Although this research provides ideas for the implementation of artificial intelligence they are very brief and theoretical, further development and exploration are needed to implement the solutions.

    Static and dynamic magnetic properties of Co2FeAl and Fe65Co35 alloys have been investigated. Co2FeAl films were deposited at different temperatures and the deposition parameters were optimized with respect to structural and magnetic properties. As a result, a film with B2 crystalline phase was obtained without any post-annealing process. A lowest magnetic damping parameter of  was obtained for the film deposited at 573K. This obtained low value is comparable to the lowest values reported in research literature.  After optimizing the deposition parameters of this alloy, different seed layers and capping layers were added adjacent to the Co2FeAl layer and the effect of these layers on the magnetic relaxation was investigated. In addition to adding nonmagnetic layers to Co2FeAl, the dependence of the magnetic damping parameter with respect to the thickness of Co2FeAl was investigated by depositing films with different thicknesses. A temperature dependent study of the magnetic damping parameter was also performed and the measured damping parameters were compared with theoretically calculated intrinsic Gilbert damping parameters. Different extrinsic contributions to the magnetic damping, such as two magnon scattering, spin pumping, eddy-current damping and radiative damping, were identified and subtracted from the experimentally obtained damping parameter. Hence, it was possible to obtain the intrinsic damping parameter, that is called the Gilbert damping parameter.

    In the second part of the thesis, Fe65Co35 alloys were investigated in terms of static and dynamic magnetic properties. Fe65Co35 films were deposited without and with different seed layers in order to first understand the effect of the seed layer on static magnetic properties of the films, such as the coercivity of the films. Then the films with seed layers yielding the lowest coercivity were investigated in terms of dynamic magnetic properties. Fe65Co35 films with different rhenium dopant concentrations and with ruthenium as the seed and capping layer were also investigated. The purpose of this study was to increase the damping parameter of the films and an increase of about ~230% was obtained by adding the dopant to the structure. This study was performed at different temperatures and after subtraction of the extrinsic contributions to the damping, the experimental values were compared with theoretically calculated values of the Gilbert damping parameter. During the thesis work, magnetic looper and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometers set-ups were used for static magnetic measurements and cavity, broadband in-plane and broadband out-of-plane ferromagnetic resonance set-ups were used for dynamic measurements.

    In the present work Co2FeAl (CFA) thin films were deposited by ion beam sputtering on Si (100) substrates at the optimized deposition temperature of 300°C. A series of CFA films with different thickness (tCFA ); 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 nm were prepared and all samples were capped with a 5 nm thick b-Ta layer. The thickness dependent static and dynamic properties of the films were studied by SQUID magnetometry, in-plane as well as out-of-plane broadband VNA-FMR measurements and angle dependent cavity FMR measurements. The saturation magnetization and the coercive field were found to be weakly thickness dependent and lie in the range 900 – 950 kA/m and 0.53 – 0.87 kA/m, respectively. The effective damping parameter ( αeff) extracted from in-plane and out-of-plane FMR results reveal a 1/tCFA dependence, the values for the in-plane αeff being larger due to two-magnon scattering (TMS). The origin of the αeff thickness dependence is spin pumping into the non-magnetic b-Ta layer and in case of the in-plane  αeff also a thickness dependent TMS contribution. From the out-of-plane FMR results, it was possible to disentangle the different contributions to αeff   and to the extract values for the intrinsic Gilbert damping (αG ) and the effective spin-mixing conductance (g_eff^↑↓ ) of the CFA/ b-Ta interface, yielding αG=1.1X10-3 and g_eff^↑↓=2.90x1019 m-2.

    The effects of rhenium doping in the range 0 – 10 at% on the static and dynamic magnetic properties of Fe65Co35 thin films have been studied experimentally as well as with first principles electronic structure calculations focussing on the change of the saturation magnetization (Ms ) and the Gilbert damping parameter (α ). Both experimental and theoretical results show that Ms decreases with increasing Re doping level, while at the same time α increases.  The experimental low temperature saturation magnetic induction exhibits a 29% decrease, from 2.31T to 1.64T, in the investigated doping concentration range, which is more than predicted by the theoretical calculations. The room temperature value of the damping parameter obtained from ferromagnetic resonance measurements, correcting for extrinsic contributions to the damping, is for the undoped sample 2.7X103, which is close to the Gilbert damping parameter extracted from the theoretical calculations. The room temperature experimental value for the damping parameter increases to  9X103 when doping with 10 at% Re; the corresponding increase of the Gilbert damping parameter obtained from theoretical calculations is 7.3X103. Both experimental and theoretical values for the damping parameter weakly decrease with decreasing temperature.

    Fe65Co35 thin films have been deposited on SiO2 substrates using sputtering technique with different choices of seed layer; Ru, Ni82.5Fe17.5, Rh, Y and Zr. Best soft magnetic properties were observed with seed layers of Ru, Ni82.5Fe17.5 and Rh. Adding these seed layers, the coercivity of the Fe65Co35 films decreased to values of around 1.5 mT, which can be compared to the value of 12.5 mT obtained for films deposited without seed layer. Further investigations were performed on samples with these three seed layers in terms of dynamic magnetic properties, both on as prepared and annealed samples, using constant frequency cavity and broadband ferromagnetic resonance measurements. Damping parameters of around 8.0X10-3 and 4.5X10-3 were obtained from in-plane and out-of-plane measurements, respectively, for as prepared samples, values that were reduced to 6.5X10-3 and 4.0X10-3 for annealed samples.

    The influence of growth temperature T-s (300-773 K) on the structural phase ordering, static and dynamic magnetization behaviour has been investigated in ion beam sputtered full Heusler alloy Co2FeAl (CFA) thin films on industrially important Si(100) substrate. The B2 type magnetic ordering is established in these films based on the clear observation of the (200) diffraction peak. These ion beam sputtered CFA films possess very small surface roughness of the order of subatomic dimensions (<3 angstrom) as determined from the fitting of XRR spectra and also by AFM imaging. This is supported by the occurrence of distinct Kiessig fringes spanning over the whole scanning range (similar to 4 degrees) in the x-ray reflectivity (XRR) spectra. The Gilbert damping constant alpha and effective magnetization 4 pi M-eff are found to vary from 0.0053 +/- 0.0002 to 0.0015 +/- 0.0001 and 13.45 +/- 00.03 kG to 14.03 +/- 0.04 kG, respectively. These Co2FeAl films possess saturation magnetization ranging from 4.82 +/- 0.09 to 5.22 +/- 0.10 mu(B)/f.u. consistent with the bulk L2(1)-type ordering. A record low alpha-value of 0.0015 is obtained for Co2FeAl films deposited on Si substrate at T-s similar to 573 K.

    Abstract [en]

    The influence of MgO and Ta capping layers on the static and dynamic magnetic properties of Co2FeAl (CFA) Heusler alloy thin films has been investigated. It is observed that the CFA film deposited with MgO capping layer is preeminent compared to the uncapped or Ta capped CFA film. In particular, the magnetic inhomogeneity contribution to the ferromagnetic resonance line broadening and damping constant are found to be minimal for the MgO capped CFA thin film i.e., 0.12±0.01 Oe and 0.0074±0.00014, respectively. The saturationmagnetization was found to be 960±25emu/cc.

    Half-metallicity and low magnetic damping are perpetually sought for spintronics materials, and full Heusler compounds in this respect provide outstanding properties. However, it is challenging to obtain the well-ordered half-metallic phase in as-deposited full Heusler compound thin films, and theory has struggled to establish a fundamental understanding of the temperature-dependent Gilbert damping in these systems. Here we present a study of the temperature-dependent Gilbert damping of differently ordered as-deposited Co2FeAl full Heusler compound thin films. The sum of inter- and intraband electron scattering in conjunction with the finite electron lifetime in Bloch states governs the Gilbert damping for the well-ordered phase, in contrast to the damping of partially ordered and disordered phases which is governed by interband electronic scattering alone. These results, especially the ultralow room-temperature intrinsic damping observed for the well-ordered phase, provide fundamental insights into the physical origin of the Gilbert damping in full Heusler compound thin films.

    In developing a computational model of trust, this paper summarises the findings in a previous study exploring mutual gaze as a behavioural parameter of social trust and liking [1]. Drawing on the data collected in a related paper [6], which provides us with video clips of children interacting with a robot during a collaborative storytelling game, we look at the interactions between metrics assessing social trust and liking, and the development of mutual gaze as an objective measure of social trust and liking. We achieve this through several statistical analyses between the percent of mutual gaze in each interaction, scores from social trust and liking metrics, age of the participant, and duration. The findings of our study support the use of mutual gaze as an objective measure for liking, but there is still not sufficient evidence to support the use of mutual gaze as an objective measure to identify and capture social trust as a whole. Furthermore, interaction context impacts the amount of mutual gaze in an interaction, and the age of the participant has an impact on the amount of mutual gaze that occurs.

Much research work has been conducted with an aim to understand and predict the insulating behaviour of such materials under different kinds of atmospheric conditions, but still there are many unsolved problems. In particular, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the electrohydrodynamic and electrophysical processes at the insulator surface and the surrounding medium. No detailed knowledge exists at present of the processes governing the development of electrical discharges along the surface of insulators.

    With an aim to enhance the knowledge in this field in general and on the electrical performance of outdoor insulators in particular a detailed study of the positive streamer discharges in air and along dielectric surfaces was conducted. The study was also extended to gain more knowledge on the water drop initiated electrical discharges in air and the attachment of natural lightning flashes to a Franklin conductor.

    In the first phase, the study was focused on positive streamer discharges propagating in air. The spatial distribution of the charge of a branched streamer discharge was obtained and the charge contained in a single streamer branch was quantified. In the second phase measurements and simulations of streamer discharges propagating along insulating surfaces were conducted with an aim to understand how the insulating surfaces interact with streamer discharges. In addition to quantifying the parameters of streamer discharges propagating along insulating surfaces, the results of these studies made it possible to separate and quantify the effects of the dielectric constant and the surface properties on the streamer discharges. In the third phase a comprehensive computer algorithm was developed to simulate 3-dimensional propagation of positive streamer discharges in air and along dielectric surfaces taking into account the branching effect.

    The conditions necessary for the initiation of streamer discharges were applied to obtain the minimum strength of the background electric field required to initiate electrical discharges in the presence of water drops. In particular the study provided an explanation of how lightning flashes are initiated in thunderclouds in background electric fields as low as 200 kV/m. Finally, the study was extended to understand the performance of lightning conductors paying special attention to the influence of conductor radius and the streamer inception criterion.

    During the last years, ethics has gained greater attention in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Stakeholders engage in debates on how to apply ethical principles in various AI organisations with many differing viewpoints. The importance of ethics in AI continuously increases as this area grows rapidly, with a considerable amount of small organisations appearing every day. At the same time, AI solutions enter all the spheres of human activities. Algorithmic accountability can be seen as one of the ways to achieve AI ethics. This thesis will, therefore, explore how small AI organisations can ensure algorithmic accountability. The thesis is based on qualitative data collected from semi-structured interviews in four Swedish small AI organisations. Findings reveal that small AI organisations in Sweden do not apply or consider applying ethical principles when developing their products. The reasons for such decisions are mainly a lack of policies and regulations. The lack of legislation makes ethics of less priority. This thesis proposes governmental bodies facilitate the AI industry by establishing clear policies, standards, and certifications. Such initiatives can assist AI organisations, especially small ones, to address ethical implications and push them towards a high level of AI.

    Today, many organizations are facing an increased necessity to employ cross-functional teams. Its growing popularity is rooted in its positive impacts on innovation. Additionally, these teams are an excellent way of managing complex organizational tasks without the need for a significant modification of the existing organizational structure. Despite the benefits of the cross-functional team, the diversity in the profession and the specialized knowledge possessed by the team members lead to different thought worlds and perceptions, causing communication barriers. This is problematic because communication is needed to share, transfer, and create knowledge, which are the prerequisites of both individual and organizational learning. There is various literature on knowledge management and learning; however, our understanding of how knowledge interchanges in cross-functional teams remain limited. Therefore, this thesis conducts semi-structured interviews at five successful companies to examine the policies and procedures established by management to facilitate the interchange of knowledge in the organization. Also, it investigates the activities used by coordinators to maximize learning and create a sense of belonging in the cross-functional team.

    The findings of this study revealed several activities that could increase both the knowledge interchange and the team’s learning. First, it is preferred to have decent knowledge accessibility, where the bar to contact anyone is low. Second, it seems that knowledge receptivity has to be increased, which can be done by giving knowledge a meaning, using pictures, analogies, metaphors, Etc. Third, a frame of reference could be needed, where people can get into each other’s shoes through, for example, job rotations and learn each other’s jobspecific terminologies. Fourth, competition is preferred to be eliminated, which can be achieved by establishing a common team goal, removing internal bonuses, and eliminating ranking systems. Finally, it seemed essential to have cohesion in the group, which can be accomplished by having, for instance, afterworks, group travel activities, and collective organizational culture

     The Swedish government supports local government initiatives in an effort to promote societal wellbeing. Municipalities work to improve the quality of life for their citizens while also providing services that are friendly to the environment. One of the major duties for municipalities that need more attention is providing drinkable water and maintaining a reliable sewer system. In order to prevent any contamination of drinking water or any filtration or leakage concerns with sewer systems, they demand significant investment and long-term attention. The VA (stands for water and sewer system in Swedish)is one of the most important infrastructure assets in a functioning society, where disruptions and interruptions risk having far-reaching consequences for people's health. The report outlines the current status of the water and sewage system in Sweden and details how accommodating it is to be improved. The study seeks areas where water and sewage services can be improved through external entrepreneurs that could establish and manage these assets, instead of the local governmental authorities. The report will also look at potential improvements in water and sewage system, through enhanced collaboration and partnership with other municipalities. In order to accomplish this, numerous literature and interviews with municipal representatives have been made, in addition to the inspection of other resources to gather information on how to continue. As a result, the water and sewage infrastructure is currently in a critical state and requires significant investment as well as quick action. The report also discovered that there are numerous legal barriers and limitations for privatizing water and sewerage operations. On the other hand, one of the report's main conclusions is that it is necessary to take into account cooperation and partnerships between municipalities in order to enhance local organizational performance and come up with a joint solution to the financial problems. However, more research must be done, and the business justifications of some municipalities' current partnerships should be looked at.

    In recent years there has been an increased focus on preservation of our environment and natural resources. As a result, in a notably natural resource consuming world, sustainable development has evolved in societies for the conservation of the environment. Even though the term sustainability has become more frequently discussed, the subject remains complex. The aim of the study is to explore how high-profile business incubators in Sweden and the startups they support relate to sustainability, and to understand the conditions for pushing more progressive sustainability agendas, in a country that boasts about its sustainability ambitions. Fourteen in-depth, semi-structured interviews were held with both incubator business developers, startup founders, an expert within the innovation system and a professional investor. This qualitative study analyses different perceptions regarding sustainability and the incubators and startups role within the innovation system in a country that boasts about its sustainability ambitions. The results indicate that there is a demand for stricter institutional pressures, with increased support for entrepreneurs. It also turns out that incubators have room for improvement when it comes to motivational inspiration and behavioural changes for their tenants. However, they show to be receptive and attentive towards a systematic approach in order to enhance sustainability work. It is also shown that entrepreneurs', compared to the incubators, appears to have taken a greater distance from understanding the sustainability topic. As many as 56 percent of the entrepreneurs claimed that a forced method could be beneficial but might require more time than it is worth. The remaining 44 percent saw it as purely advantageous. Future studies are encouraged to conduct an investigation including a greater number of participants as an attempt to generalise these findings, and also try to identify if gender has a significant role regarding the matter.

    Socially interactive robots are expected to have an increasing importance in everyday life for a growing number of people, but negative user experience (UX) can entail reluctance to use robots. Positive user experience underpins proliferation of socially interactive robots. Therefore, it is essential for robot developers to put serious efforts to attain social robots that the users experience as positive. In current human-robot interaction (HRI) research, user experience is reckoned to be important and is used as an argument for stating that something is positive. However, the notion of user experience is noticeably often taken for granted and is neither described nor problematized. By recognizing the complexity of user experience the intended contributions can be even more valuable. Another trend in HRI research is to focus on user experience evaluation and examination of user experience. The current research paths of user experience of socially interactive robots are not enough. This chapter suggests that additional research directions are needed in order accomplish long-term, wide-spread success of socially interactive robots.

    It has often been noted that the construction sector is quite inefficient in producing innovation especially when compared with other industries (Winch,2003). Moreover, innovation is becoming more and more a key competence in competitive environment of construction. Clients were found to play a pivotal role of clients in promoting construction innovation. However, how clients contribute to innovation is less investigated. Also, the construction project consists of a network of actors who interact with each other on different levels.These interactions affect and shape the requirements of the clients which then influence the innovation process of the construction project. It is important to take into account the several aspects of these interactions into consideration (Havenvid et al., 2016).The aim of this study is to investigate the role of clients in driving construction innovation by studying how their requirements may generate change within the project network. The second question aims to capture the different project actors’ views and perspective on construction innovation. This is done by conducting a case study on the construction project of the New Ångström Laboratory; an academic building of Uppsala University in Sweden. The data were collected following a qualitative approach. The results were analysed using ARA model (Actors, Activities and resources) framework.The study concludes that partnering can lead to an increase in productivity and efficiency of carrying out construction project work. The study also found that clients requirements can trigger innovation in a construction project. Another finding is that process innovation may generate greater effects on the actor's network than product innovations and suggest focusing on process innovation to accelerate the overall innovation process.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis is to examine how BIM can be used in a more widespread way at a contractor's project organization within infrastructure. This includes an analysis of the factors that are important to take into account and what barriers an organization must overcome. The thesis has also compared infrastructure- and real-estate projects in terms of BIM-usage.

    A case study has been carried out at the construction company NCC in Sweden with a qualitative approach. The study builds on a theoretical framework and empirical data that have been gathered through a literature review and interviews.

    The results show that there is a need for at least one person responsible, and with mandate to drive change at a local level in the organization. The planning and production phase need a consensus on how to work with BIM and how the technology should be used within a project organization. There is also a need for a requirement and monitoring process towards planners and consultants before the planning process starts.

    Moreover, the study concludes that BIM usage in infrastructure projects differ from that of real estate project. It therefore suggests that the two should not be directly compared in terms of the potential of the technology.

    The study has been conducted on a communication agency called Outhousebyrån. The study examines the organization’s approach to project management and explores opportunities for enhancing efficiency. The study has also investigated how a new digital project management tool affects Outhousebyråns project management.

    Outhousebyrån faces difficulties structuring, planning and communicating during projects. The study has chosen to examine two digital project management tools, Trello and Monday. These have been tested on Outhousebyråns ongoing projects based on their needs and preferences.

    The purpose of the study is to present a digital project management tool to help Outhousebyrån structure and make their projects more effective. The study conducted is a qualitative case study where the data was collected using three methods, semi-structured interviews, observations, and sent-out questionnaires. The collected data has been analyzed based on theories that originates from Total Quality Management (TQM) and project management.

    Based on the analyzed result it was concluded that Outhousebyrån needed a digital project management tool, that would help them structure their projects. The study has compiled a list of the employees preferences regarding functions in a updated digital project management tool.

    The result showed that both tools fulfilled most of the expectations collected from the data. Since both tools could be implemented, the choice between the two was based on Mondays wider selection of functions and Outhousebyråns personal preferences. The result showed that Monday was more suitable for the organization. Finally, a proposal was presented on how Monday could be implemented for Outhousebyråns project management.

    In food-grade emulsions, particles with an appropriate surface modification can be used to replace surfactants and potentially enhance the stability of emulsions. During the life cycle of products based on such emulsions, they can be exposed to a broad range of pH conditions and hence it is crucial to understand how pH changes affect stability of emulsions stabilized by particles. Here, we report on a comprehensive study of the stability, microstructure, and macroscopic behavior of pH-controlled oil-in-water emulsions containing silica nanoparticles modified with chitosan, a food-grade polycation. We found that the modified colloidal particles used as stabilizers behave differently depending on the pH, resulting in unique emulsion structures at multiple length scales. Our findings are rationalized in terms of the different emulsion stabilization mechanisms involved, which are determined by the pH-dependent charges and interactions between the colloidal building blocks of the system. At pH 4, the silica particles are partially hydrophobized through chitosan modification, favoring their adsorption at the oil-water interface and the formation of Pickering emulsions. At pH 5.5, the particles become attractive and the emulsion is stabilized by a network of agglomerated particles formed between the droplets. Finally, chitosan aggregates form at pH 9 and these act as the emulsion stabilizers under alkaline conditions. These insights have important implications for the processing and use of particle-stabilized emulsions. On one hand, changes in pH can lead to undesired macroscopic phase separation or coalescence of oil droplets. On the other hand, the pH effect on emulsion behavior can be harnessed in industrial processing, either to tune their flow response by altering the pH between processing stages or to produce pH-responsive emulsions that enhance the functionality of the emulsified end products.

    Edible solid particles constitute an attractive alternative to surfactants as stabilizers of food-grade emulsions for products requiring a long-term shelf life. Here, we report on a new approach to stabilize edible emulsions using silica nanoparticles modified by noncovalently bound chitosan oligomers. Electrostatic modification with chitosan increases the hydrophobicity of the silica nanoparticles and favors their adsorption at the oil water interface. The interfacial adsorption of the chitosan-modified silica particles enables the preparation of oil-in-water emulsions with small droplet sizes of a few micrometers through high-pressure homogenization. This approach enables the stabilization of food-grade emulsions for more than 3 months. The emulsion structure and stability can be effectively tuned by controlling the extent of chitosan adsorption on the silica particles. Bulk and interfacial rheology are used to highlight the two stabilization mechanisms involved. Low chitosan concentration (1 wt % with respect to silica) leads to the formation of a viscoelastic film of particles adsorbed at the oil water interface, enabling Pickering stabilization of the emulsion. By contrast, a network of agglomerated particles formed around the droplets is the predominant stabilization mechanism of the emulsions at higher chitosan content (5 wt % with respect to silica). These two pathways against droplet coalescence and coarsening open up different possibilities to engineer the long-term stabilization of emulsions for food applications.

    Background: Health care is facing major future challenges with a changing demographic. An aging population means increasing multi-morbidity and complex care needs. This means that more people need to share the same resources. The study intends to investigate how existing resources can be optimized to promote accessibility to care from a quality engineering perspective.

    Method: Data collection was carried out with combination of a systematic literature study and a case study. A deductive thematic analysis was used to analyze collected qualitative data which was compiled into categories and themes. The results of both studies were analyzed using pattern analysis, where similarities and differences were highlighted.

    Results: Several barriers in hospital-wide flow were identified and compiled into eight categories; management, planning & collaboration, quality, capacity, system understanding, communication, patient and staff. Process indicators are demonstrated in many parts of the care process and the various functions of healthcare. Proposed solutions for resource optimization to promote accessibility to care were summarized into six themes and 28 categories. Identified themes are, the patient at the center, mission and organization, strategic leadership, people in the organization, applying new technology and developing the care services.

    Conclusion: Previous studies that examined factors which affects capacity in hospitals emphasizes the importance of holistic understanding, which is confirmed in this study. If the capacity and thus accessibility to care is to be promoted, it is required that the development takes place with an understanding of the healthcare system. It also requires knowledge of how care can meet patients' needs with the help of quality technology. By using a variety of principles, methods and tools, performance can be improved and accessibility to care can be promoted.

    1) What actors and system functions shape the plant-based protein extraction industry out of legumes look like in Sweden from a system perspective?

    2) What functions are limiting the establishment of protein extraction facilities in Sweden?

    Method – The methodology used is a qualitative case study of the Swedish plant-based protein extraction industry. The data was collected through interviews and literature review. The data collected was analysed according to the Technical Innovation System (TIS) framework.

    Findings – The current Swedish system of protein extraction is lacking the ability to provide a wide variety of high-quality extracted protein due to lack of technology, infrastructure and actors for establishing a well-developed Swedish plant-based protein extraction industry. The main limitations found for the protein extraction industry are the high economic investment needed to establish extraction facilities. This together with high uncertainties for new actors to enter the field and due to limited knowledge of providing high-quality and tasty protein to the industry.

    Implications – The findings of this study provide a guideline to developers and policymakers which aim to encourage the development of the Swedish plant-based food industry. And will allow the emerging protein extraction industry to get more support in the areas which are currently the most important obstacles.

    Limitations – The study is limited in that perspectives of certain actors are not represented in the interviews. One example of this is the perspectives of equippment suppliers, which is important as this group of actors have been highlighted to have significant knowledge in the studied area.

    Algorithms currently have direct implications in our democracies and societies, but they also define mostly all our daily activities as users, defining our decisions and promoting different behaviors. In this context, it is necessary to define and think about how to design the different implications that these algorithms have from a user centered perspective, particularly in social media platforms that have such relevance in our information sources and flow. Therefore, the current thesis provides an introduction to the concept of algorithmic experience, trying to study how to implement it for social media services in cellphone devices. Using a Research through Design methodology supported by interface analysis, document analysis and user design workshops, the present paper provides results grouped in five different areas: algorithmic profiling transparency, algorithmic profiling management, algorithmic awareness, algorithmic user-control and selective algorithmic remembering. These five areas provide a framework capable of promoting requirements and guide the evaluation of algorithmic experience in social media contexts.

    Value is fundamental in business-to-business marketing, where marketing revolves around the term value. Understanding the value of offering through customers' eyes is important for business success. Due to the subjective nature of value, it's imperative to understand the value based on the customer's individual interpretation. In this context, perceived value plays a central theme for this study, and analyzed in the terms of benefits and sacrifices. But to capture the broader picture of customers' value functional, social, and emotional perceived values were considered. The research questions were formed to investigate the kind of values that customers perceive, and another question was framed to investigate the multidimensionality of values. In order to answer the research questions, a qualitative descriptive approach was applied and through judgmental sampling, respondents were chosen. The five potential customers were interviewed through semi-structured technique.

    The authors applied the model “value hierarchy” to investigate the customer's perceived value which consists of three layers: attributes, consequences and objects; it shows correlation among the three layers. The laddering technique was used in connection with hierarchy, through this technique authors understood how consumers were able to perceive value in each layer. The tangibilization strategy was used to provide cues that helped build mental construct of services in customer’s minds. Customers assess the services by evaluating its value. The value from the consequences were perceived multidimensionally by customers depending on the attributes. Customers perceived functional value in aspects of saving time and ease of workload. They were able to perceive value socially, when some features helped manage stress among the employees and through provision of these services to end customers saw an increase in firm awareness in the market. Customers also felt a feeling of happiness when using certain attributes especially among the end customers thereby bringing emotional value into the picture. All the different values perceived helped reach their respective end-goals.  The model found useful to investigate the customer value sequentially, also evaluating current customer’s needs. The study revealed that the attributes aren't chosen without a purpose. Customers perceive some benefits from the attributes that help achieve their specific needs. The study was confirmation about integrating the model with different value dimensions helped determine the connection of these dimensions with customer value. The study ends with presenting managerial, theoretical and practical implications and provides ground for future research in exploring other framework of values, followed by limitations of the study.

    The competition in the manufacturing industry has never been higher. Owing to the technological changes and advancements in the market, readily available data is no longer a thing of the past. Numerous studies have discussed the impact of industry 4.0, digital transformation as well as better production planning methods in the manufacturing industry.  The Mass-Manufacturing industry, in specific, has gained efficiency levels in production that were previously unimaginable. Industry 4.0 has been discussed as the ‘next big thing’ in the manufacturing context. In fact, it is seen as a necessity for manufacturing companies to stay competitive. However, efficient production planning methodologies are a preliminary requirement in order to successfully adopt the new manufacturing paradigms. The Engineering-to-order (ETO) industry is still widely unexplored by the academia ETO industries, barely have any production planning methodologies to rely on owing to their complex production processes and high reliance on manual-labour. Regression techniques have repeatedly been used in the production planning context. Considering its statistical prowess, it is no surprise that even the newer machine-learning techniques are based on regression. Considering its success in the mass-manufacturing industry for production planning, is it possible that its usage in the ETO industry might lead to the same results?

    This thesis involves a case study that was performed at an electrical transformer manufacturing plant in Sweden. After understanding the several operations that are performed in the production process, regression techniques are employed to estimate man-hours. The results from the study reconfirm the statistical prowess of regression and show the possibility of using regression in order to estimate man-hours in the ETO industry. In addition, several factors that can affect successful adoption of this tool in the production planning context are discussed. It is hoped that this study will lay the foundation for better production planning methodologies for the ETO industries in the future which might subsequently result in more data-driven decision making rather than instincts.

    The rising concerns of climate change and global warming have made the current practices of industrial energy generation and consumption highly unsustainable. There is a growing awareness of the importance of renewable energy use in addressing climate change and establishing sustainable development. One of the renewable sources which have gained popularity over time is solar energy. Among the various solar technologies, one potential segment is solar thermal technology which involves solar thermal collectors. This technology mainly concentrates on providing industrial process heat across a wide range of temperature, and it's classified within the industry of Solar Heat for Industrial Process (SHIP). Though the SHIP technologies show strong technical feasibility, only few industries employ solar heat and there is a decreasing trend of adoption. 

    Hence, this research aims to understand the reasons for decreasing adoption by studying what and how are the factors affecting the adoption of solar thermal technology. This is done by performing a qualitative study across two industrial sectors food and chemical in the region of Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The obtained data by conducting semi-structured interviews are analysed using the Technological-Organization-Environment (TOE) theoretical framework. 

    The results from the study show that there are 9 important factors affecting the adoption of solar thermal technology that are categorized into technological factors (reliability, flexibility, financial attractiveness, and competitive alternatives), organizational factors (management support and resources) and environmental factors (regulatory environment, technology support provider and competitive pressure). Apart from the technological factors of lack of reliability and financial attractiveness, the organizational factors of lack of resources and the environmental factor of low incentives in MENA region, the aspect of cheap competitive alternatives especially in the MENA region, is causing the decrease in adoption within the food and chemical industry.

    Staging experiences and providing optimal customer experience has become the new battlefield within the marketing segment, since the introduction of experience economy. The modern customer has multiple devices, channels and touchpoints to interact with the organization and with rapidly changing digital technology, where the product or service information are available online 24/7, he/ she is in-charge of his/ her own experiences. This multitude of options pose great challenges for the organization to understand customer needs, expectations, and behavior, and predict and manage customer experience. Despite numerous studies and streams of literature, several authors, scholars, and practitioners have developed fragmented frameworks and models that partially addresses this multidimensional construct of customer experience. Furthermore, things get complicated when these fragmented constructs are used by the luxury travel industry to design, develop, and manage customer experience.

    Therefore, in order to address this broad concept and provide the organization with a holistic framework that can be leveraged for providing customer experience, we conducted a qualitative multi-case study, that included 14 semi-structured interviews from various actors within the supply- chain of the luxury travel industry. Using thematic analysis, the rich empirical data from the interviews were analyzed and transformed into sub-themes and themes. Keeping these themes as the foundation, we propose an integrated conceptual model that captures a firm integrating customer and co-creation perspectives to provide customer experience. This integrated model consists of five building blocks, Organizational Factors, Design, Delivery and Management of customer experience, Co-Creation, Customer Experience Insights / Metrics and Moderating Factors, that coupled together should influence customer experience. Using this conceptual model, we analyzed how different actors within the supply-chain provide customer experience. Subsequently, we also develop a customer journey map (from a customer perspective) consisting of customer needs, channels, and touchpoints to understand the critical touchpoint that act as the primary contributors for providing customer experience. And finally, we highlight the driving factors and barriers for providing customer experience within luxury travel industry.

    Allied Motion Technologies Inc. is a global group that develops, manufactures,assembles and sells electric motors with associated transmission and electric driveadapted to customers in industries such as vehicles, manufacturing industry, medicaltechnology, defense and security, etc. Allied Motion, Bromma in Stockholm, hasdevelopment and installation of, among other things, control servos and gearboxes forstorage trucks and other components for the automotive industry. Allied Motion seesan integration of IATF 16949:2016 as a necessity to further enter the automotiveindustry. At present, they therefore need to understand where they are in relation tothe optimal situation to certify themselves against IATF 16949:2016. The purpose ofthe project is to provide support for Allied Motion's management for decisions onplanning and starting work on certification of the automotive quality standard IATF16949:2016 by creating the conditions for systematic integration work. The projecthas developed a tool for systematic and continuous mapping and analysis ofrequirements compliance IATF 16949:2016 that has been used and tested during theproject. Results and analysis show that certification against IATF 16949:2016 isjustified for Allied Motion but there is a need to create sense of urgency. Decisionsmust be made on how and when to implement IATF 16949:2016 and a project mustbe defined and resources dedicated. Activities in future projects with integration areall about modernizing the current operating system while gradually adding IATF16949.

    The study seeks to identify methods of measurements of sustainability development from a customer satisfaction point of view in a municipality at the urban management section. The studied organization is experiencing a potential for development within how sustainability development is being measured. The sustainability work is being performed cross-sectional within the municipality. The sustainability management is being performed with various methods. In order to reach the purpose with this essay the formal and official control documents for the department and the municipality has been analyzed with qualitative methods through direct observations as means to identify primary data. After collection of the data semi-structured interviews has been performed with individuals within different areas that has a direct connection to the organizations sustainability work, in order to complete the direct observations. As theory concepts within sustainability, methods for reporting and measuring sustainability, quality, customer satisfaction, LCA-analysis and earlier research has been used. Earlier research has mainly debated methods of measurements of social sustainability or methods and reasons for sustainability reporting. The most important results is that the organisation has a clear and structured sustainability program but do not perform any kind of measurements of the work from a customer satisfaction perspective. It has not been possible to identify a standard method for measuring this within any available theory. The conclusions within the study gives that the municipality hast he possibility to collect information about what the customer expectations is regarding sustainability through for example a poll. It is likely possible to standardize methods to follow up on sustainability from a customer satisfaction perspective in order to increase the customer satisfaction.

    Collaboration is a form of organization on the rise in Sweden. For health care, it is ofinterest to collaborate with industry to ensure that needs for specialist education andtraining are met and that products developed meet the relevant requirements.Conversely, industry actors have an interest to have a close collaboration with healthcare in order to gain insight into customer needs, provide information about theirproducts and to test products in development.The starting point of this study is an agreement and regulatory framework for formsof collaboration between public health care in Sweden in general and thepharmaceutical industry, the medical device industry and the laboratory technologyindustry. The research questions concerns how this agreement has evolved and theprocess surrounding its emergence may contribute to knowledge about collaborationas a form of organization and the relationship to concepts such as legitimacy,corruption and institutional theory.By tracking the emergence of the current regulatory framework genealogicalthroughout history, the study uncovers how the agreements have played a role in andcontributed to the legitimization and institutionalization of collaboration practices andhow crises have changed the shape of the practices. A theoretical treatment ofrelevant concepts such as legitimacy, institutionalization of practices, corruption andstigmatization of organizations form the basis for an interpretation and analysis of theprocess.The conclusions of the examination of the historical process that led to the currentagreements contribute to empirical knowledge of how crises and stigma affect thelegitimacy of collaboration practices and how the repair of legitimacy can be donesuccessfully after a crisis. The treatment of the empirical material is also a historicalsource for the development of ethics agreements between public health care andpharmaceutical industry and the medical industry in Sweden.

    During the last couple of years, an increasing number of teachers have chosen to leave their profession in the world of teaching. There a number of reasons as to why teachers are leaving their current employment; some teachers describe their administrative workload being overwhelming whilst others state that the general responsibility at the workplace has increased. In addition, some teachers declare that the general workload also has increased. Nowadays there is a lack of educated teachers, approximately around 60 000 vacant posts need to be filled in the Swedish school-system. In a school, located in the south of Sweden, there has been a large shift of employees. There has been a large number of teachers, who have been on sick leave or left their employment voluntarily. In a pre-study, made in the spring of 2019, which this essay is based on, ambiguities were identified in regard to the job description and the division of responsibility, in the teaching profession. In order to carry out the study of this essay, a case study with an abductive approach was chosen to investigate the factors behind the problems previously mentioned, in the previously mentioned a south-Swedish school. The premise of the study was to present different factors which influence and support the teachers’ mission. The intention of the essay was to identify and map factors which can promote mission- and responsibility-comprehension in the school.  To enable the essay and the study, the following questions were used: Which factors are hindering the teachers’ mission- and responsibility comprehension? and Which factors create mission- and responsibility comprehension?. To understand the teachers’ challenges in everyday tasks and discover possible factors that are influencing the teachers’ mission, the author of the essay has studied results which previous research has produced. The collection of data is a qualitative data collection method consisting of observations of teachers as well as individual with the teachers. In chapter 4, results, the results of the observation-schedule and the teachers’ dictums are presented. The factors which obstructed the teachers in their daily work were (1) Digitalized communication, (2) Confidence and honesty between staff, (3) Lack of cooperation between colleagues, (4) The meeting’s agenda, which took time from the teachers’ work, (5) The lack of leadership and (6) The teachers’ working methods. The factors which promoted mission- and responsibility comprehension were (1) The teachers’ comprehension of their mission, (2) The structure of the meetings, in the shape of a scheduled day and time for the meeting, (3) The motivation and dedication the teachers feel for their job as well as (4) The willingness to cooperate between teachers. To create better opportunities for mission- and responsibility comprehension, a PDSA-cycle was presented for the continuation of the work improvement for the school.

    When the climate apocalypse comes I’ll make it: 16 year old Hampus Andersson’s survival month living off the lands and waters in the forests of Norrbotten, Sweden. There is a lot of talk of crisis and apocalypse, due to war, to climate change. Young people worried about their future go on school strike and manifest, around the world. But, when the climate or any other crisis happens, how are these young (and adult) protesters prepared to fend for themselves? How long can you survive without electricity and water in the tap, with access to food in the supermarket? Thinking about all of this, 16 year old Hampus Andersson decided to try to live off the lands and waters for a full month, on his own. If there is such a crisis, would he make it on his own? From mid July to mid August 2019, the experiment went on. He made sure to learn from more experienced and older reindeer herders and others with experience from the forests. Hampus is not completely unaware on how to get access to food in the forest. His father is a Sámi reindeer herder, and his mother’s family are an agriculture family. But until this day he had never done such an experiment. How would he find food, water, shelter? What would be the hardest? Some things that he had never even thought about turned out to be harder than expected. During the stay Hampus documented his everyday life with photos and short films, and posted on his Facebook page and Instagram. This is a film made from those photos and videos, along with an interview by film maker Petri Storlöpare, Slowfilm AB. Hampus speaks of his experiences, thoughts and ideas on how to continue this experiment. Will he try the same in the Arctic winter, with temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius? The film project is supported by Dálkke: Indigenous Climate Change Studies, led by Dr. May-Britt Öhman, Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies on Racism, CEMFOR, Uppsala University.
