    Abstract [en]

    What has happened with the perception that Europeans have of their relationship with the European Union through the years? Is it possible to find some analogies between present times and international relations in the XIX century Europe?

    This work tries to study the period comprehended between the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and the period that ended up in World War I in order to search for behavioural and ideological patterns similar to those of the development of the European Union as we have known it.

    The thesis stands for the idea of that finding similarities and interconnections between the past of European nations may be a help to predict the proper way to integrate the different citizenries of current European countries under a common identity of shared values.

    Abstract [en]

    Thousands of Sumerian and Old Akkadian personal names from 3rd millennium BCE Meso-potamia are known and documented. The present study inspects names containing the royal appellatives, Sumerian lugal and Akkadian śarrum. The study aims at uncovering the rela-tionships between personal names and the development of early historical kingship and reli-gious thought in the area.

    An overview of Sumerian and Old Akkadian names and name-giving serves as a starting point for semantic investigations of lugal- and śarrum-names. Sumerian and Old Akkadian names are to a large extent meaningful, and the literal meaning can be used to arrive at an understanding of the symbolic value, which led to the coining of the name. Discussions rely on comparable passages of contemporary and later written traditions.

    To facilitate discussion and comparisons between the languages, names are divided into semantic groups based on characteristic traits found in contemporary royal inscriptions and religious texts. Parallel constructions are noted whenever such constructions are known. Names are assigned human or divine referents when possible. A look at political and religious developments puts the distribution of certain name types over time and space into perspective. Local and regional traditions and types are displayed and related either to royal ideological traits or to theological speculation. Besides locally significant gods, a few other deities can be identified as referents in names. A brief statistical overview of different archives shows that names featuring the figure of the lugal experience an increase in popularity at the expense of  other types.

    A system of annotation gives approximate numbers for bearers of names belonging to the types investigated. Lists of attestations, which document date and archival context, form the basis for discussions and conclusions and make the material available for inspection and further exploration.

    Abstract [en]

    The emotional part of a museum experience is being debated and there is research pointing towards the affective part of learning. The purpose of this study is to examine how museum pedagogues reason about the usage of affective learning in their work and to investigate whether they consider affective pedagogy is a part of their work or not. Furthermore how they consider themselves working, or not working, with feelings in their pedagogy.

    A key factor in this study has been to work interdisciplinary with both museum pedagogy and social science with theoretical perspectives of feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, disgust and fear, and with theories such as Feelings & materiality and Pedagogy of Feeling. Methodologically a qualitative interview study museum pedagogues have been used together with observation of four Swedish state- and country museums.

    In this thesis it is shown that the interviewed museum pedagogues indeed have acknowledged the fact that the museum is an affective place, but the interviewed had different way of make use of feelings. They all agree on the fact that feelings can support the learning process, and that all the different feelings have their own effect on learning. Also that the museum pedagogues have some influence on the feeling that the exhibitions are to emit, which could be used in the pedagogues favor if the exhibition consists of hard and problematic feelings. However, in contrast to this it seems that few of the museum pedagogues discuss the affective influence of a upcoming exhibition or program, or evaluate a project in what feeling the visitors experienced during the visit.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis examines how images are used and evaluated in a Swedish archival context. Images as of today are very common in society. They are nearly everywhere, particularly in our phones and computers. Therefore the written word is slowly losing it's sovereignty as a carrier of information. With this background the study examines if the images role also have changed in an archival setting.

    The following work is a qualitative research study that examines three Swedish archives: the Regional State Archive in Uppsala, Swedish Labour Movement's Archives and Library in Stockholm and the Centre for Business History in Stockholm. Furthermore the study examines how the institutions organize images and how they make them accessible for the public. It also examines what role the image play as a carrier of information in the archive. In more general terms the study also investigates what function the image can have for people in society. The comparison of the archival institutions is a methodological foundation for this study. Semi- structured interviews were conducted with archivists from the three institutions and works as the main source. For the analysis this study uses document theory and a few concepts derived from Terry Cook's archival theory, namely evidence, memory, identity and community.

    In terms with the previous research made on the subject this study comes to the result that images have different terms for archiving than other materials, most specifically papers documents. The examined archival institutions are today using the same tools for organizing images as they use for other documents. This can have negative effects on the ability the image has as a carrier of information. In the long run this could cause the image to become a marginalized part of the archive as a whole.

    The conclusion this mater's thesis presents is that the image has a potential as a source of information. Especially for groups that aren't previously represented in the archive through traditional paper documents. The image may therefore contribute to the archival pluralism and diversity, as long as the images are treated with the terms they demand as an archival document.

    This is a two years master's thesis in Archival Science.

    Abstract [en]

    Cultural heritage sites can be looked at differently by different people. These sites also carry collective understandings of how they should be understood. Between these two outsets there are negotiations of the sites’ meaning and value. The aim of this thesis is to understand how a place, institutionally pointed out as cultural heritage, is used and staged through diverse and intersecting practices, both through media and on the heri-tage site.

    Two differently oriented cases are researched within Swedish cultural heritage preservation: one the birthplace of Carolus Linnaeus, the botanist, which is a cultural reservation located at Råshult in the south of Sweden, and the other a commissioned archaeological project called Slättbygdsprojektet in Östergötland in mid Sweden. The questions concern on what arenas the mediation happens, its theme/content, the staging of the cultural heritage, as well as the visitors’ experiences and the strategic actors’ visions of the site. Methodically I follow both a fictive visitor’s way to the heritage site and actual visitors on site.

    Both in Slättbygdsprojektet and at Linnés Råshult the collective understandings of the sites are mainly viewed as a place for scientific study and a treasure chamber for especially valuable objects. The visitors especially highlight the social aspects of their visit. The visitors’ interpretation exists and competes with other images. However, there are no arenas that can make them visible, to put them in relation with the strategic actors, despite much public speech in recent years about democratizing cultural heri-tage processes. Images of different researched materials of the site have been juxta-posed to make visible the dynamic, negotiations, competition and lack of dialogue about cultural heritage sites.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis focuses on the cooperation of the archive and the school. The theoretical framework is socio-cultural perspective. The main method used is qualitative interviews with employees at the archives. I have studied three different archives which, in cooperation with the school, conduct archival education. In addition to the interviews I have participated in two observations. The research found that there was a great interest in the school to participate in the archive's educational work. Factors such as stress for the teachers and too few archive educational resources adversely affect the archive education mission. The views look different, but the goal is to present archives to the students and provide a positive experience. The fact that archives are to be regarded as an obvious place of visit, was the democratic right of citizens, and that information is being discussed what the archives want to convey to archive education. The archival material used by the archives has a clear link with the curricula and places great emphasis on teaching source criticism.

    Länge har den nationella idén varit representerad och dominerande i Baskien tillsammans med den nationella identiteten. Baskerna håller fortfarande fast vid en gammal romantiserad bild av att vara en enad och självständig nation och föreställningen om en etnisk särskildhet förstärks av etniska och kulturella markörer såsom ett gemensamt språk, tillhörighetkänsla till plats, historiska anor, gemensamma traditioner och samhörighetskänsla mellan spanska och franska basker. I denna studie belyses och analyseras dessa markörer samt sätts i samband med några av de diskurser som råder i spanska Baskien då de är den symboliska basen för hur basker uttrycker, upprätthåller och skapar föreställningar kring baskisk identitet och nationalism. I takt med en alltmer globaliserad värld utmanas dock den nationella idén och en kulturell förändring sker i Baskien som påverkar åtminstone den yngre generationen spanska baskers sätt att uttrycka sin identitet och nationalism. Ett växlande mellan två identiteter väcker ambivalenta känslor då framtiden diskuteras. Å ena sidan vill man fortsätta vara världsmedborgare, leva i ett gränslöst EU och vara en del av den inre marknaden. Å andra sidan vill man vara en del av ett lokalt kollektiv och samhälle. Den nationella idén, myten och stereotypen av baskerna som tidigare beskrivits som något homogent och endimensionellt är i själva verket heterogent och mångdimensionellt.

    Abstract [en]

    The starting point of this study is a letter to the Swedish Research Council which maintained the difficulty to reconcile chemistry with open access. Previous studies show that when other sciences is increasing in both the deposition rate and selection of OA journals, there is a lull in chemistry. The purpose of the master thesis is to gain an understanding of chemists reluctance to open access in the light of the implementation of Chalmers' mandating open access policy and through field theoretical perspectives understand why. The survey is conducted with a qualitative approach and the empirical data consist of interview material from nine interviews that took place at Chalmers Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The interviews show that chemists believe that the idea of open access is certainly sympathetic but incompatible with the chemical sciences. It is believed that the discipline´s traditions, practice and publishing culture as well as opportunities for career differs from other sciences, including what open access is concerned. This uniqueness has not been taken into account in the implementation of OA policies of funding agencies and universities, according to the informants.

    Evaluations of other universities implementations of open acces policies have identified success factors like support, legal advice and hands-on help in self-archiving. According to the results of this thesis, functionality and infrastructure appears to be less significant if university management and funders does not establish an atmosphere of alliance and thus undermines confidence in the policy and its proponents. The study confirms the importance of the researchers feel invited and involved in the process of change.

    Abstract [en]

    With the purpose to investigate policies within long-term preservation of digital media in the modern world of Open Access institutional repository, this two year's master thesis was conducted through a qualitative study with quantitative overtures. The main objectives of this thesis centre on the criteria for long-term digital preservation, preservation in relation to institutional repositories, the issues cropping up within the field of institutional repositories, and the essential components of a preservation policy.

    The theoretical framework is constructed around a model based upon scholarly communication, with its aspects of dissemination, acquisition, preservation, discovery and access, and with the facet of preservation at its centre. The methodology of this study is cued to content analysis and its in-depth investigative process, which was conducted on a sample of ten preservation policies within Open Access institutional repositories that were compared to a standardised expert set of policy categorisation.

    The results show that a perfect preservation policy does not appear to exist in the current world, based exclusively on the selected sample. This gives a strong indication of a need for further research within the field of Open Access institutional repositories preservation policies.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis is to present identified modifications in the model opera Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, and to put these in perspective of its trajectory from its origins in the novel Tracks in the Snowy Forest, to its final form as the studied model opera from 1970. A semantical analysis was employed in the study of the book and the script, whereas semiotics served as a tool in identifying the existence and use of traditional elements from the theatrical form of jingju in the model opera. The contextualized analysis of the encountered alterations and their employment in relation to their history and contemporary circumstances shed a light over the importance of the identified elements’ role in using the model opera as a tool for clarifying differences between good and evil as established by the contemporary political elite. Going beyond its entertaining purpose and in accordance with the established policies regarding the arts set by the Communist Party, director Jiang Qing created a medley of Chinese and Western instruments, reformed jingju elements and rephrased lines. A medley conveying the indirect message of the right way to follow, in the disguise of a communist hero besieging Tiger Mountain in the name of revolution.

    In order to design a restoration mortar with properties and composition similar to the original mortar, it is important to analyze the historic mortar in several ways. A combination of analyses give information about the mixing ratio between binder and aggregates, chemical composition of the mortar, additives, tool marks, application technique etc. This paper shows the variations in Swedish medieval lime mortars with a high content of binder. By analysing historic mortar with a combination of ocular investigations, microscopically studies of thin section specimens, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Powder Diffraction, all the information needed for designing a restoration mortar, with composition and properties similar to the historic mortar, is gained.

    Abstract [en]

    The following master’s thesis considers as its main objective to prove that corresponding socio- cultural processes manifest themselves differently in Hungarian and Norwegian artistic spheres respectively. This is a cross-cultural case study analysis, focusing specifically on a selection of sociological factors that might affect the identities of artists differently depending on social background and cultural heritage. Seeing as this is a qualitative investigation, an exploration of the working conditions and individual development of six Hungarian and six Norwegian artists assist the study.

    The thesis examines the cultural environments into which the assembled artists of the research are socialized, in order to map their varying artistic practices, careers and even personal lives. The comparative approach of the case studies is situated within the framework of art sociological and cultural political theories.

    Findings and implications of the study are likely to yield results that show not only generational differences and contrasting progression within the two cultural contexts separately, but will also expose similarities and dissimilarities in the cultural dynamics governing the two art worlds in question.

    Abstract [en]

    Gotland has a very long tradition of lime burning. Traces of lime burning on Gotland stretch back to the 12th century. An inventory of all the lime kilns in Gotland was made in 1942. Since then the market, the use and the tradition of lime burning have changed significantly. By the start of WW2 a shortage of black coal occurred. This meant that the large, traditional lime kilns could no longer be operated with the same capacity. The small, wood-burning kilns were the only furnaces that survived. With the cement's entry the demand for lime mortar got heavily reduced, which in turn meant the end for the last lime kilns. The cement quickly proved inadequate in many situations, especially in the field of monument care​​, and the demand for traditional lime mortar increased again already in the 1960s. Since then, three lime kilns were taken into use on Gotland; two smaller, traditional lime kilns and one large, industrial kiln.

    This thesis intends to follow up on the inventory that was made in 1942 in order to create a basis for further discussion of the historical values the lime kilns possesses and how these values can be cared for.

    Abstract [en]

    This study examines the cultural place and status of video and computer games in the Swedish public library. Using works on popular culture and the theories of Pierre Bourdieu, this study employs quantitative methods, as well as textual analysis, to analyze the results of an online questionnaire with 19 questions focusing on selection criteria, shelf placement, perceived competence, as well as reasoning for having or not having these games in the library. 286 out of the 440 libraries contacted is participating in the study, and the libraries consist exclusively of public libraries in Sweden that are found in the database of the Royal Library.

    The results of this study show that a larger number of libraries than previously indicated have started to provide electronic games to their patrons. At the same time, patterns in the data and comments suggests that these games in many cases still do not enjoy the same level of cultural recognition as other media. Indicative of this is the way most libraries seem to focus on the medium being exclusively for their young patrons, with seem-ingly very little in the way of investment for adults. Also relevant is selection process being highly influenced by the type and amount of violence in the games, regardless of the level of competence and knowledge about games among library staff. These findings relate to and expand upon previous studies regarding electronic games, cul-ture and the public library. This study constitutes a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

    Abstract [en]

    When viewed on the internet, the waterslides and pools at Amman Waves look deserted, but when paying a visit they are filled with children, women and men in various kinds of swim wear. At Amman Waves women’s swim wear fashion ranges from small bikinis to swim-suits that cover every part of a woman’s body except the face, hands and feet. In this article these differences in covering are discussed and categorized in relation to Islamic law. It is argued that this variation in swim wear also has relevance for European societies since it shows possibilities for negotiations (agreement) between traditional Islamic ideals and ideals in modern Western societies.

    Abstract [en]

    We can note a varied use and attitudes to song and music in Islam. In the classroom of Sana, a primary school teacher of Islamic religious education in a Muslim school in Sweden, music is an important but not uncontested part of Islamic religious education. Sana uses different genres of music, ranging from Islamic hip-hop and pop to more traditional nasheed. The music supports themes discussed in the classroom but also gives variation to the education. It happens that children comment and say that the hip-hop and pop-music Sana plays is haram, forbidden. Sana seldom touches upon the notion of music as forbidden or unlawful in the classroom, but nevertheless it is visible in her choices of music and the way she presents the music for the children. Outside the classroom, in interviews with the researcher, Sana talks about the necessity of finding Islamic role models that attract the young, instead of “bearded old men” that might have interesting things to say but have neither “the looks nor the language” to attract young people. Sana’s use of music within Islamic religious education is discussed to seize the meanings associated with music and understand the educational choices Sana makes in relation to music. The paper is based on fieldwork that took place during 2005 and 2006.

    This article deals with the successful Swedishcrime writers and the gendered aspects of how they are marketed towards thereaders in the 2000s. The purpose is to show how Swedish publishers follow distinctgender patterns in their marketing of crime fiction, and to discuss how thisaffects the responses to male and female crime novelists in cultural and mediallandscapes. The empirical material consists of 153 Swedish crime novels,published in paperback between 1998 and 2011. Theoretically, the article connectsto the field of book history insofar as the printed book itself is seen asimportant when it comes to how literary works are perceived by their readers.The results show that male and female authors of crime fiction in general havebeen marketed recognizably different in almost all possible ways. In the books’extra materials and other author-centred peritexts, female authors areassociated with the private and the family related. Male authors, on the otherhand, are most often described as proficient, well writing and engaged insocial criticism. Furthermore, the book covers are clearly gendered: covers bymale authors are darker, more serious and more traditional to the crime genre;covers by female authors are brighter, more “fun” and reminiscent of chick litrather than of traditional crime fiction. The main conclusion is that thegender gap shown in these paperbacks support and maintain the stereotype thatmale and female authors write different types of crime fiction, with maleauthors being valued the most. The paratextual division of male and femalecrime writers, thus, upholds the established and gendered hierarchy in thegenre.

    Studiens har dels i syfte att undersöka hur traditionerna inom två av Uppsalas studentorkestrar tillkommit, ser ut, förändrats och försvunnit, och dels hur orkesteruniformen tillkommit, hur den används och vilka regler den tillskrivits.

       Materialet består av intervjuer med personer som är eller tidigare har varit aktiva i någon av studentorkestrarna Hornboskapen och ab Kruthornen samt texter som blivit tryckta av antingen orkestrarna själva eller de studentnationer orkestrarna tillhör.

        Många traditioner hos både Hornboskapen och ab Kruthornen kan kopplas ihop med studentnationernas egna traditioner. De står dock under förändring och kan skilja sig från år till år. Det symboliska värdet är detsamma men utförandet kan variera. Nya traditioner föds medan andra medvetet avskaffas då de inte längre är aktuella.

         Orkesteruniformen håller orkestern enad. Den kan på samma gång visa grupptillhörighet och individualism beroende på hur individen själv väljer att bära sin uniform.

    The column ”Fråga bibliotekarien” by Jenny Lindh is published in Dagens Nyheter, and is a popular culture work wich is read by a broad audience. This work examines how Lindh relates to established stereotypes of female librarians, and her position on the matter. Lindhs work is new in that she is a working librarian herself, and the question to be answered by this master thesis is whether or not her narrative loosens up, and breaks down, established stereotype images of the librarian.

    The source material is Lindhs work ”Fråga bibliotekarien”, published in Dagens Nyheter. The analysis is made on 171 pieces, which are answers to the questions of readers. A method of discourse analysis is used, focusing on categorized content and in some cases form. The categorized elements follows previous published sterotypes of the female librarian. Theory of language for narrative creation and post-modernity has been used in the analysis of the material. Further, the humor and irony used in the work is discussed and it is shown how Lindh uses these narrative tools to both enhance and ridicule the sterotype images of the female librarian.

    This master thesis come to the conclusion that Lindh is very well aware of the various stereotypes that exists regarding her profession, and that she uses these. But also that the total ensemble of her work breaks down these images and shows how impossible they are as a representation of the female librarian. Finally, she adds a new narrative, in connection with post-modernity, where she creates an identity of the librarian built upon contradictary stereotypes of old, with added display of professional competence within library and information science.

    This is a two years master´s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

    Swedish cultural heritage policies put heritage of the Church of Sweden in an exceptional position. It is protected by law and managed by the Church of Sweden which receives a yearly economical compensation from the Swedish government to assure a continued protection and care. The purpose of this study has been to examine categories and definitions that are used in the formulations of the protection of this part of the national cultural heritage. The study also analyses the values and motives behind the distribution, which is being regulated by said definitions. To achieve this, I have answered questions about to what kind of projects the compensation has been distributed, focusing on the appointed object and intervention categories. These classifications have been compared to the projects actual character, and also to official guidelines and policies.

    The results of the study show that the distribution of the government compensation follow official guidelines more often than not, but also that the project categorizations are frequently misguiding in comparison to the actual character of the projects. In written statements from the Swedish National Heritage Board and the Church of Sweden a dissonance regarding their respective value perspectives has been shown. The big difference is found in a question of definitions regarding the nature of the religious heritage in policy documents.

    Definitions of cultural heritage are crucial in heritage management. The classification stated in policy documents and used during the management of the heritage of the Church of Sweden, is also defining what is included. These classifications and definitions are part of the traditional western heritage management discourse. By using theoretical frameworks like Authorized Heritage Discourse the results of the study has been put in a perspective of using categories as way to manifest material heritage.

    This thesis examines the prevalence of Roma voices in Swedish and German newspaper articles specifically about Roma individuals or groups. It explores the importance of discursive self-representation for minority and marginalised groups, and evaluates the level of participation afforded to the Roma in three of the largest newspapers in each country, across a varied political spectrum. Sweden and Germany both profess to be seeking solutions to the widespread discrimination against Roma within their own countries and across Europe, and therefore provide interesting comparative case studies, both due to their historical relationship with Roma populations and in light of contemporary events. This study uses quantitative analysis to determine the percentage of newspaper articles about Roma that include a Roma voice and qualitative analysis to investigate the variety of voices included. The findings are then analysed using theories regarding European identity-building, Orientalism, and media analysis. The thesis concludes with a reflection upon the impact of under- or misrepresentation on minority groups, and includes recommendations for the improvement of representation and participation of marginalised voices in media discourse.

    The thesis seeks to examine whether anthropological knowledge can improve the Logical Framework Approach (LFA). LFA is a widespread project planning method that is used in development projects. Various publications about LFA have been studied to identify arguments in favor of, and against the method. Furthermore, anthropological publications on how anthropology can be used in development and aid projects forms the foundations for analyzing the LFA. This is performed to see where anthropological knowledge can be applied to improve it. The result is presented by focusing on the criticism to discover how anthropology can contribute to improving the methods in the areas of concern.

    In this talk I will present some preliminary thoughts on the concept of safety, as described by some of the people with trans* experiences who have contributed to my work in progress research project The gender binary city - Ethnography of safety, vulnerability and resistance in transgender people’s narratives on city life. I will use the post-colonial feminist thinker Sara Ahmed’s discussion on comfort and the phenomenology of whiteness as thinking tools. Questions up for discussion are for example: What constitutes safe space? How does being safe feel like? How do descriptions of safety differ according to cultural categories and intersecting power structures such as race, gender, and class?

    This paper shows how we can work step by step to design appropriate climate control systems. We know enough about climate specifications to reduce risks significantly. The specifications for preservation should be wheighed against other factors in a risk assessment, methods used in museums need to be adapted for this purpose. A climate analysis will give the basic conditions for climate control. A climate control strategy should use a combination of passive control, ventilation, heating and humidity control to achieve the desired indoor climate at low cost and with minimal impact on the building.

    In Europe many historic buildings use direct electric heating. Air-to-air heat pumps are an interesting alternative, in particular for conservation heating. However, the convective heating may accelerate soiling of walls and artefacts by increasing the velocity and turbulence. The objective of the present paper is to discuss the general problem, the methodology for studying air motions and temperature distribution, and to present the results from a case study where air-to-air heat pumps and bench heaters were used for heating in a medieval church. The temperatures, velocities and humidity in the church have been measured for four different heating modes. The present study does not indicate any major disadvantages of using heat pumps for background heating in stone churches of the studied kind. More detailed long term studies are needed to ascertain the effects over time.

    Abstract [en]

    Energy efficiency is an issue that brings the trade-off between aspects of use and preservation to a head. On the one hand, interventions for energy efficiency facilitate long-term use by reducing operating costs; on the other hand, the interventions may have both a physical and a visual impact on the cultural heritage value and the fabric of the building.

    In order to promote a sustainable use and preservation of historic buildings, The Swedish Energy Agency instituted a National Research Program for Energy Efficiency in HistoricBuildings. The first stage of the program ranfrom 2007 to 2010 with a total budget of around 4 million Euro. Additional funding was provided by the Church of Sweden and the NationalHeritage Board. There were fifteen projects involving some thirty researchers from different Swedish universities and research institutes.

    To mark the end of the first stage of the national research program the international conference Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings was held in Visby in February 2011. Most of the projects within the program were presented at the conference and international key-note speakers were invited to each session, giving a total of 24 papers. More than one hundred participants, representing ten countries, participated in the conference.

    In the extreme north of Sweden, the indoor climate and energy performance of 50 churches is being monitored in order to improve energy efficiency and to improve the indoor climate with respect to the preservation. The objective of the present paper is to investigate if and how both indoor climate and energy efficiency can be improved through better climate control. Three cases were chosen to study churches with no heating, permanent heating and intermittent heating. In each case the actual indoor climate was compared to climate criteria for preservation to determine the consequences in terms of climate control. The results show that there is a conflict between the climate criteria for preservation and the present use of the churches that cannot be resolved by technical solutions only. In order to come up with reasonable compromise research is needed on climate criteria and risk management at extremely low ranges of RH.
