Design and Implementation of the advanced cloud privacy threat modeling2016In: International Journal of Network Security & Its Applications, ISSN 0975-2307, E-ISSN 0974-9330, Vol. 8, no 2, p. 103-122Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Privacy-preservation for sensitive data has become a challenging issue in cloud computing. Threat modeling as a part of requirements engineering in secure software development provides a structured approach for identifying attacks and proposing countermeasures against the exploitation of vulnerabilities in a system. This paper describes an extension of Cloud Privacy Threat Modeling (CPTM) methodology for privacy threat modeling in relation to processing sensitive data in cloud computing environments. It describes the modeling methodology that involved applying Method Engineering to specify characteristics of a cloud privacy threat modeling methodology, different steps in the proposed methodology and corresponding products. In addition, a case study has been implemented as a proof of concept to demonstrate the usability of the proposed methodology. We believe that the extended methodology facilitates the application of a privacy-preserving cloud software development approach from requirements engineering to design.

Privacy Threat Modeling for Emerging BiobankClouds2014In: Procedia Computer Science, ISSN 1877-0509, E-ISSN 1877-0509, Vol. 37, p. 489-496Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

There is an increased amount of data produced by next generation sequencing (NGS) machines which demand scalable storageand analysis of genomic data. In order to cope with this huge amount of information, many biobanks are interested in cloudcomputing capabilities such as on-demand elasticity of computing power and storage capacity. There are several security andprivacy requirements mandated by personal data protection legislation which hinder biobanks from migrating big data generatedby the NGS machines. This paper describes the privacy requirements of platform-as-service BiobankClouds according to theEuropean Data Protection Directive (DPD). It identifies several key privacy threats which leave BiobankClouds vulnerable to anattack. This study benefits health-care application designers in the requirement elicitation cycle when building privacy-preservingBiobankCloud platforms.

    Abstract [en]

During the past couple of years, Sweden has as many other European countries encountered several challenges being the results of globalization, financial crisis and a migration tide. In this report, some trends and changes in the constitutional setting are commented upon as the constitution, political setting and the welfare state are put to the test by these challenges. The language used in media and by the politicians underlines the perspective of the country facing a crisis. The constitution, however, has not often been referred to and the complex challenges that counties, municipalities and national agencies meet are handled with pragmatism not opening up for the constitutional dimension. Abstract [en]

This dissertation examines the status and role of fundamental social rights in a Swedish context. The point of departure is Chapter 1, Article 2, para. 2 in the Swedish Instrument of Government, where important social rights are articulated as fundamental goals for society: the right to social assistance, the right to shelter and the right to health. As these rights are”goals”, the state and its authorities shall strive to achieve them. They are not formulated as individual rights in the constitution and are not invocable before the courts. In order to analyse the constitutional choice to keep these rights outside the Swedish “Bill of Rights” in Chapter 2 of the Instrument of Government, the constitutions of Canada, Finland and South Africa are studied.

The Swedish constitutional context is highly dependant on international obligations in international conventions and the fact that Sweden is a member of the European Union. Changes and trends concerning access to and content of social rights in public international law are traced via the United Nation’s two conventions for human rights, as well as through the conventions of the Council of Europe. The conclusion is that social rights today are being defined in a clearer way than before. Individuals and groups also have wider possibilities to make complaints concerning violations of these rights. A very important factor for this is the evolving view of non discrimination in public international law.

Non discrimination is also the point of departure for the strengthening of access to social rights in the European Union. Through the four freedoms of European Community law, the individual has been given individual rights. Today this picture is widened thanks to the citizenship of the European Union and to the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights. We can therefore start considering social human rights in the EU.

The conclusion is that the Swedish constitution does not handle the constraints that public international law and the membership in the EU mean for the national welfare state, nor is it equipped to handle that the factual status of social rights as constitutional rights.

    Abstract [en]

How are Western, mostly secular, societies handling religion in its increasingly pluralistic and complex forms? In Reconsidering Religion, Law, and Democracy the authors study the interaction and negotiations between religious organizations and religious citizens on the one hand, and the state, the judicial system, the media, and secular citizens on the other.

Religion has become increasingly visible in contemporary society and is, more often than before, recognized as a public matter and not merely a private issue. As such it presents new challenges or opportunities to scholarly research and to society at large. The contributors to this volume shed light on what follows when expressions of religion meet different spheres of society.

The authors explicitly point to the need to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the roles played by religion in society today. By presenting case studies, fresh perspectives and new questions they suggest that deeper knowledge is best achieved by further, increasingly nuanced interdisciplinary research.
