    Abstract [en]

The idea behind this study came about because Region Gotland has taken the decision to introduce The act of free choice system (LOV) for the activity called occupational therapy for disabled. LOV was established in 2009 to increase freedom of choice for people in health care and to encourage private firms to establish themselves in this area. On the 1st January 2012, Region Gotland introduced LOV in the Social Services Committee for occupational therapy in LSS to increase freedom of choice for local residents. The study deals with the occupational therapy in the municipality and looks at the implications of what the introduction of LOV will bring. Interviews were conducted with politicians, heads of units, staff and users to find their view of the decision to introduction LOV and how business is conducted today and which improvements could be made.

Occupational Therapy for disabled does not see competition as a threat but welcomes increased competition that LOV might mean and looks forward to increase the quality for users and to provide opportunities for professional development of staff. There are no new private suppliers on the market since the introduction of the act of free choice system. The expected competitive situation has not occurred. This depends on various factors. However, the Daily activities of Occupational Therapy for disabled in Region Gotland should take this opportunity to begin a systematic work with improvements to increase the quality to a lower cost which would be beneficial both to the customers and the organization.
