    Polsk grammatik2023Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Full of memories butterfly museum. The title of Tomas Tranströmer’s memories in translation.

This article provides a retrospective overview of Tomas Tranströmer’s memoirs inSwedish and in other languages, with a focus on Polish publications. It defines thetitle’s general function and the strategies needed by the translator in translating orchoosing the title. The choice of titles is particularly interesting: how did Tranströmerchoose the title and how it is related to the poems, both stylistically and in terms ofcontent? In Polish, the memoir’s title has totally changed between the first and the lastedition, and thus possible translation solutions involved are investigated. The articlealso briefly highlights the translation of Swedish literature into Polish and vice versa. From a historical perspective, these translations are made through the so-called majorlanguages, such as German and English. The impact that this practice has had, andwhether it has changed over time, is likewise studied.

    Abstract [en]

Differences in the work of interpreters and translators are obvious and depend on different recipients of these services. The article highlightsin particular the characteristics of legal interpretationbetween Polish and Swedish, as well as literary translations of Swedish crime novels to Polish. Emphasis is placed on some problem areas, such as translation of namesof criminal offences, police ranks andcourt names. Theseproblem areas are applicable to both interpreters and translators, but are handled differently. Knowledge of criminal law and legal terms among interpreters and translators also differs, which may be the result of the requirement for relevant education to dialog interpreters, while translators need to acquire relevant knowledge on their own.

"VEM är jag?": Det lyriska subjektet och dess förklädnader i Tomas Tranströmers författarskap2010Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this dissertation is to examine how the lyrical subject is presented in Tomas Tranströmer’s poetry and prose.  Crucial concepts such as the lyrical subject, autobiography, and the memoir are thoroughly discussed and defined based on modern research.

The first chapter is devoted entirely to Tranströmer’s prose. Unlike previous studies, this dissertation seeks to establish the genre to which the poet’s memoirs belong. The comparative analysis I use in my dissertation enables us to see both the differences and the similarities in the way that Tranströmer presents the lyrical subject in his prose and poetry. I have taken into account the motifs used by Tranströmer in his memoirs as well as in his poetry.

The next chapter discusses the Swedish reception of modernism, a literary movement, which also according to Tranströmer himself, greatly influenced his literary debut in Sweden in the 1950s.

The subsequent chapters of my dissertation are devoted to an analysis of Tomas Tranströmer’s poems, which I classify on the basis of how they express the lyrical subject. I analyze both the way the lyrical subject is expressed and its place in the poem. Even though Tomas Tranströmer often uses his own experiences in his works, he transforms them in order to make them more universal. Thus, the lyrical subject is not identical with the poet himself. At the same time, the way the lyrical subject is expressed in a poem highlights its personal character.

In the conclusion of the dissertation it is argued that further research is needed to establish whether the selection of Tomas Tranströmer's poems made by the editors of various anthologies may have influenced the reception of his poetry as being objective and impersonal.
