    Abstract [en]

    Vad finns i museets dolda vrår, på vindar och i magasin? Och vad avslöjar samlingarna om olika epokers insamlingspraxis och ideologier? Vilka normer och värderingar blottläggs? Sådana frågor diskuteras i denna antologi med genusperspektiv som en självklar utgångspunkt. Museiarbetets teori och praktik, kulturella produktion och institutionella ramverk granskas med könsmedveten blick. I fokus för diskussionen står museernas olika verksamheter: utställningar, förvärv, samlingar, organisation och museipedagogik. Här finns artiklar av mer teoretisk karaktär liksom texter som förmedlar en personlig erfarenhet av museivärlden.

    Det bekönade museet är en introduktion till området museer och genus.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper proposes a concept of information defined as semantic links to a meaning external to the information, located in the structure of the lifeworld. In building upon Habermas Theory of Communicative Action, the progress of linguistically coordinated action in the lifeworld through speech acts connected with claims of validity is briefly described. The claim is put for ward that the meaning of a statement or an artefact can only be determined through communicative action since all information is semantically contex tualized in the lifeworld, the basic structure of society within which the repro duction of world views and cultural traditions occurs. However, communicative rationality shapes social institutions into a system of growing complexity that exerts pressure on the lifeworld, increasing the need for communicative action. The function of facilitating the evaluation of validity claims makes access to information necessary for consensus formation and action coordination, thereby emphasizing the significance of IS. The paper presents a model of contextualized praxis as it concludes that information specialists must act communicatively.

    Abstract [en]

    Using new institutional theory and discourse theory this article discusses different norms and values that may affect the encounter between the public library and the user. It also focuses on problemising what characterizes this encounter. The background to why I find these questions important to discuss is that they are related to my research project in which I plan to study the picture of public libraries as it is reproduced in mass media. What norms the institution holds may affect that picture but also the other way around- the picture of public libraries in mass media may have an impact on institutional norms. The discussions in the article shows that institutional norms regulate the behaviors of both librarians and users, not least in the way users are categorized and talked about by the institution as well as in Library and Information Science.
