    Abstract [en]

    We elaborate on the decay of branes inside throat geometries that are supported by flux carrying charges opposite to the brane. Our main point is that such backgrounds necessarily have a local, possibly diverging, pile up of brane-charges dissolved in flux around the anti-brane due to the (fatal) attraction of the flux towards the brane. We explain that this causes enhanced brane-flux annihilation and is in tension with the idea that anti-branes can be used to construct meta-stable vacua. We argue that stable configurations - if they at all exist - are not obtainable within SUGR. The problem we point out is already present when the back-reaction is confined in the IR and the associated uplift energy small. Our results are valid in the regime that is complementary to a recent analysis of Bena et al.

    Abstract [en]

    Recently, it has become clear that neighboring multiple vacua might have interesting consequences for the physics of the early universe. In this paper we investigate the topography of the string landscape corresponding to complex structure moduli of flux compactified type IIB string theory. We find that series of continuously connected vacua are common. The properties of these series are described, and we relate the existence of infinite series of minima to certain unresolved mathematical problems in group theory. Numerical studies of the mirror quintic serve as illustrating examples.

    Abstract [en]

    We study entanglement entropies of simply connected surfaces in field theories dual to Lovelock gravities. We consider Gauss-Bonnet and cubic Lovelock gravities in detail. In the conformal case the logarithmic terms in the entanglement entropy are governed by the conformal anomalies of the CFT; we verify that the holographic calculations are consistent with this property. We also compute the holographic entanglement entropy of a slab in the Gauss-Bonnet examples dual to relativistic and non-relativistic CFTs and discuss its properties. Finally, we discuss features of the entanglement entropy in the backgrounds dual to renormalization group flows between fixed points and comment on the implications for a possible c-theorem in four spacetime dimensions.

    Abstract [en]

    We describe the infinitesimal moduli space of pairs (Y, V) where Y is a manifold with G(2) holonomy, and V is a vector bundle on Y with an instanton connection. These structures arise in connection to the moduli space of heterotic string compactifications on compact and non-compact seven dimensional spaces, e.g. domain walls. Employing the canonical G(2) cohomology developed by Reyes-Carrion and Fern\'andez and Ugarte, we show that the moduli space decomposes into the sum of the bundle moduli H-d(sic)A(1)(Y, End(V)) plus the moduli of the G(2) structure preserving the instanton condition. The latter piece is contained in H-d(sic)theta(1)(Y, TY), and is given by the kernel of a map F(sic) which generalises the concept of the Atiyah map for holomorphic bundles on complex manifolds to the case at hand. In fact, the map F(sic) is given in terms of the curvature of the bundle and maps H-d(sic)theta(1)(Y, TY) into H-d(sic)A(2) (Y, End(V)), and moreover can be used to define a cohomology on an extension bundle of TY by End(V). We comment further on the resemblance with the holomorphic Atiyah algebroid and connect the story to physics, in particular to heterotic compactifications on (Y,V) when alpha'=0.

    We calculate planar tree level one-point functions of non-protected operators in the defect conformal field theory dual to the D3-D5 brane system with k units of the world volume flux. Working in the operator basis of Bethe eigenstates of the Heisenberg XXX1/2 spin chain we express the one-point functions as overlaps of these eigenstates with a matrix product state. For k = 2 we obtain a closed expression of determinant form for any number of excitations, and in the case of half-filling we find a relation with the Neel state. In addition, we present a number of results for the limiting case k -> infinity.

    Abstract [en]

    We show how to construct an algebraic curve for factorized string solution in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We define factorized solutions to be solutions where the flat-connection becomes independent of one of the worldsheet variables by a similarity transformation with a matrix S satisfying S-1 dS = const. Using the factorization property we construct a well defined Lax operator and an associated algebraic curve. The construction procedure is local and does not require the introduction of a monodromy matrix. The procedure can be applied for string solutions with any boundary conditions. We study the properties of the curve and give several examples for the application of the procedure.

    We study the correlation function of two circular Wilson loops at strong coupling in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, the problem maps to finding the minimal surface between two circles defined on the boundary of AdS, and the fluctuations around the classical solution in AdS(5) x S-5. At the classical level, we derive the string solution in H-3 X S-1 explicitly, and focus on properties such as stability and phase transition. Furthermore, a computation of the associated algebraic curve is given. At the quantum level, the one-loop partition function is constructed by introducing quadratic bosonic and fermionic fluctuations around the classical solution, embedded in AdS(5) x S-5. We find an analytic, formal expression for the partition function in terms of an infinite product by employing the Gel'fand-Yaglom method and supersymmetric regularization. We regulate the expression and evaluate the partition function numerically.

    We study the general formulation of gauged supergravity in seven dimensions with sixteen supercharges keeping duality covariance by means of the embedding tensor formalism. We first classify all inequivalent duality orbits of consistent deformations. Secondly, we analyse the complete set of critical points in a systematic way. Interestingly, we find the first examples of stable de Sitter solutions within a theory with such a large amount of supersymmetry.

    We provide the dictionary between four-dimensional gauged supergravity and type II compactifications on (6) with metric and gauge fluxes in the absence of supersymmetry breaking sources, such as branes and orientifold planes. Secondly, we prove that there is a unique isotropic compactification allowing for critical points. It corresponds to a type IIA background given by a product of two 3-tori with SO(3) twists and results in a unique theory (gauging) with a non-semisimple gauge algebra. Besides the known four AdS solutions surviving the orientifold projection to = 4 induced by O6-planes, this theory contains a novel AdS solution that requires non-trivial orientifold-odd fluxes, hence being a genuine critical point of the = 8 theory.

    We study an exhaustive analytic class of massive type IIA backgrounds pre-serving sixteen real supercharges and enjoying SL(2, ) x SO(8) bosonic symmetry. The corresponding geometry is described by AdS(2) x S-7 warped over a line, which turns out to emerge from taking the near-horizon limit of D0-F1-D8 intersections. By studying the singularity structure of these solutions we find the possible presence of localized O8/D8 sources, as well as of fundamental strings smeared over the S-7. Finally we discuss the relation between the aforementioned solutions and the known AdS(7) x S-2 class through double analytic continuation.

    We present a new BPS flow within minimal N = 1 supergravity in seven dimensions describing a warped AdS(3) background supported by a "dyonic" profile of the three-form. Furthermore, we discuss the holographic interpretation of the above solution in terms of a defect SCFT2 inside the 6d (1, 0) theory dual to the AdS in the asymptotic region. Finally we provide the brane picture of the aforementioned defect CFT as D2- and wrapped D4-branes ending on a D6 - NS5 - D8 funnel in massive type IIA string theory.

    We consider warped AdS(2) x M-4 backgrounds within F(4) gauged supergravity in six dimensions. In particular, we are able to find supersymmetric solutions of the aforementioned type characterized by AdS(6) asymptotics and an M-4 given by a three-sphere warped over a segment. Subsequently, we provide the 10D uplift of the solutions to massive type IIA supergravity, where the geometry is AdS(2) x S-3 x S warped over a strip. Finally we construct the brane intersection underlying one of these supergravity backgrounds. The explicit setup involves a D0-F1-D4 bound state intersecting a D4-D8 system.

    We study several different types of BPS flows within minimal N = 1, D = 7 supergravity with SU(2) gauge group and non-vanishing topological mass. After reviewing some known domain wall solutions involving only the metric and the R+ scalar field, we move to considering more general flows involving a "dyonic" profile for the 3-form gauge potential. In this context, we consider flows featuring a Mkw(3) as well as an AdS(3) slicing, write down the corresponding flow equations, and integrate them analytically to obtain many examples of asymptotically AdS(7) solutions in presence of a running 3-form. Furthermore, we move to adding the possibility of non-vanishing vector fields, find the new corresponding flows and integrate them numerically. Finally, we discuss the eleven-dimensional interpretation of the aforementioned solutions as effective descriptions of M2 - M5 bound states.

    A new class of exact supersymmetric solutions is derived within minimal d = 6 F(4) gauged supergravity. These flows are all characterized by a non-trivial radial profile for the 2-form gauge potential included into the supergravity multiplet. In particular three solutions within this class are featured by an AdS(3) foliation of the 6d background and by an AdS(6) asymptotic geometry. Secondly, considering the simplest example of these, we give its massive IIA uplift describing a warped solution of the type AdS(3) x S-2 x S-3 fibered over two intervals I-r x I. We interpret this background as the near-horizon of a D4-D8 system on which a bound state D2-NS5-D6 ends producing a surface defect. Finally we discuss its holographic dual interpretation in terms of a N = (0, 4) SCFT2 defect theory within the N = 2 SCFT5 dual to the AdS(6) x S-4 massive IIA warped vacuum.

    We consider in any dimension the supersymmetric Z(2) truncations of the maximal supergravity theories. In each dimension and for each truncation we determine all the sets of 1/2-BPS space-filling branes, i.e. branes whose world-volume invades the whole of space-time, that preserve the supersymmetry of the truncated theory and the representations of the symmetry of such theory to which they belong. We show that in any dimension below eight these sets always contain exotic branes, that are objects that do not have a ten-dimensional origin. We repeat the same analysis for half-maximal theories and for the quarter-maximal theories in four and three dimensions. We then discuss all the possible gaugings of these theories as described in terms of the embedding tensor. In general, the truncation acts on the quadratic constraints of the embedding tensor in such a way that some representations survive the truncation although they are not required by the supersymmetry of the truncated theory. We show that for any theory, among these representations, the highest-dimensional ones are precisely those of the 1/2-BPS space-filling branes that preserve the same supersymmetry of the truncated theory, and we interpret this result as the fact that these quadratic constraints after the truncation become tadpole conditions for such branes.

    The unwinding inflation mechanism is studied in a type IIB flux compactification where all moduli are stabilized using flux, non-perturbative effects, and the leading alpha' corrections of the large volume scenario. We consider the backreaction on the geometry due to the presence of anti-D3 branes as well as the backreaction of inflation on the Kahler moduli, and compute the resulting corrections to the slow-roll potential. By taking large flux numbers, we are able to find inflationary epochs where backreaction effects are under control, the inflaton traverses a super-Planckian field range, and the resulting amplitude of scalar perturbations is consistent with observation.

    In this paper, we investigate the expansion of tree level multitrace Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes. First, we propose two types of recursive expansions of tree level EYM amplitudes with an arbitrary number of gluons, gravitons and traces by those amplitudes with fewer traces or/and gravitons. Then we give many support evidence, including proofs using the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula and Britto-Cachazo-Feng-Witten (BCFW) recursive relation. As a byproduct, two types of generalized BCJ relations for multitrace EYM are further proposed, which will be useful in the BCFW proof. After one applies the recursive expansions repeatedly, any multitrace EYM amplitudes can be given in the Kleiss-Kuijf (KK) basis of tree level color ordered Yang-Mills (YM) amplitudes. Thus the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) numerators, as the expansion coefficients, for all multitrace EYM amplitudes are naturally constructed.

    We consider a class of minimal anomaly free U(1) extensions of the Standard Model with three generations of right-handed neutrinos and a complex scalar. Using electroweak precision constraints, new 13 TeV LHC data, and considering theoretical limitations such as perturbativity, we show that it is possible to constrain a wide class of models. By classifying these models with a single parameter, κ, we can put a model independent upper bound on the new U(1) gauge coupling gz. We find that the new dilepton data puts strong bounds on the parameters, especially in the mass region MZ′≲3 TeV.

    We study the collider phenomenology of a neutral gauge boson Z′ arising in minimal but anomalous U(1) extensions of the Standard Model (SM). To retain gauge invariance of physical observables, we consider cancellation of gauge anomalies through the Green-Schwarz mechanism. We categorize a wide class of U(1) extensions in terms of the new U(1) charges of the left-handed quarks and leptons and the Higgs doublet. We derive constraints on some benchmark models using electroweak precision constraints and the latest 13 TeV LHC dilepton and dijet resonance search data. We calculate the decay rates of the exotic and rare one-loop Z′ decays to ZZ and Z-photon modes, which are the unique signatures of our framework. If observed, these decays could hint at anomaly cancellation through the Green-Schwarz mechanism. We also discuss the possible observation of such signatures at the LHC and at future ILC colliders.

    Perturbative calculations of the effective potential evaluated at a broken minimum, Vmin, are plagued by difficulties. It is hard to get a finite and gauge invariant result for Vmin. In fact, the methods proposed to deal with gauge dependence and ir divergences are orthogonal in their approaches. Gauge dependence is dealt with through the ℏ-expansion, which establishes and maintains a strict loop-order separation of terms. On the other hand, ir divergences seem to require a resummation that mixes the different loop orders. In this paper we test these methods on Fermi gauge Abelian Higgs at two loops. We find that the resummation procedure is not capable of removing all divergences. Surprisingly, the ℏ-expansion seems to be able to deal with both the divergences and the gauge dependence. In order to isolate the physical part of Vmin, we are guided by the separation of scales that motivated the resummation procedure; the key result is that only hard momentum modes contribute to Vmin.

As a main illustration, we consider the functionals over the cotangent bundle of the superloop space over a smooth manifold. We present a number of examples of the Courant-like brackets arising from this analysis.

    In this work we discuss an analytic bootstrap approach [1, 2] in the context of spinning 4D conformal blocks [3, 4]. As an example we study the simplest spinning case, the scalar-fermion correlator. We find that to every pair of primary scalar phi and fermion correspond two infinite towers of fermionic large spin primary operators. We compute their twists and products of OPE coefficients using both s-t and u-t bootstrap equations to the leading and sub-leading orders. We find that the leading order is represented by the scalar-fermion generalized free theory and the sub-leading order is governed by the minimal twist bosonic (light scalars, currents and the energy-momentum tensor) and fermionic (light fermions and the suppersymmetric current) operators present in the spectrum.

    We prove the MHV vertex expansion for all tree amplitudes of N=4 SYM theory. The proof uses a shift acting on all external momenta, and we show that every N^kMHV tree amplitude falls off as 1/z^k, or faster, for large z under this shift. The MHV vertex expansion allows us to derive compact and efficient generating functions for all N^kMHV tree amplitudes of the theory. We also derive an improved form of the anti-NMHV generating function. The proof leads to a curious set of sum rules for the diagrams of the MHV vertex expansion.

    We analyze a model of Semi-Direct Gauge Mediation in which the hidden sector is the 4-1 model and the messenger fields are charged under the U(1) gauge group. At tree level, the SUSY-breaking F-terms induce D-terms from which SUSY-split messenger masses arise. We calculate these masses by three complementary methods. Additionally, we compute the one-loop corrections to the masses. We consider this model both with and without a Fayet-Iliopoulos term for the hidden sector U(1). Finally, we write down a simple model of Minimal Gauge Mediation in which the only scale is dynamically generated.

    We consider a model for the Higgs sector with two scalar doublets and a softly broken Z2 symmetry, the Stealth Doublet Model. This model can be seen as a generalization of the Inert Doublet Model. One of the doublets is the Higgs doublet that participates in electroweak symmetry breaking and couples to fermions. The other doublet does not couple to fermions at tree level and does not acquire a vacuum expectation value. The broken Z2 symmetry leads to interesting phenomenology such as mixing between the two doublets and charged and CP-odd scalars that can be light and have unusual decay channels. We present theoretical and experimental constraints on the model and consider the recent observation of a Higgs boson at the LHC. The data on the H→ γγ channel can be naturally accommodated in the model, with either the lightest or the heaviest CP-even scalar playing the role of the observed particle.

    We investigate the worldsheet S matrix of string theory in η-deformed AdS5×S5. By computing the six-point tree-level S matrix we explicitly show that there is no particle production at this level, as required by the classical integrability of the theory. At one and two loops we show that integrability requires that the classical two-particle states be redefined in a non-local and η-dependent way. This is a significant departure from the undeformed theory which is probably related to the quantum group symmetry of the worldsheet theory. We use generalized unitarity to carry out the loop calculations and identify a set of integrals that allow us to give a two-loop Feynman integral representation of the logarithmic terms of the two-loop S matrix. We finally also discuss aspects of the calculation of the two-loop rational terms.

    In these notes we describe how to formulate the Lagrangian insertion technique in a way that mimics generalized unitarity. We introduce a notion of cuts in position space and show that the cuts of the correlators in the super-correlators/super-amplitudes duality correspond to generalized unitarity cuts of the equivalent amplitudes. The cuts consist of correlation functions of operators in the chiral part of the stress-tensor multiplet as well as other half-BPS operators. We will also discuss the application of the method to other correlators as well as non-planar contributions.

    We consider a semiclassical multiwrapped circular string pulsating on S5, whose center of mass has angular momentum J on an S3 subspace. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we argue that the one-loop anomalous dimension of the dual operator is a simple rational function of J/L, where J is the R-charge and L is the bare dimension of the operator. We then reproduce this result directly from a super Yang-Mills computation, where we make use of the integrability of the one-loop system to set up an integral equation that we solve. We then verify the results of Frolov and Tseytlin for circular rotating strings with R-charge assignment (J',J',J). In this case we solve for an integral equation found in the O(−1) matrix model when J'<J and the O(+1) matrix model if J'>J. The latter region starts at J' = L/2 and continues down, but an apparent critical point is reached at J' = 4J. We argue that the critical point is just an artifact of the Bethe ansatz and that the conserved charges of the underlying integrable model are analytic for all J' and that the results from the O(−1) model continue onto the results of the O(+1) model.

    To properly discover a charged Higgs Boson (H±) requires its spin and couplings to be determined. We investigate how to utilize t spin correlations to analyze the H± couplings in the decay tbH+bτ+ντ. Within the framework of a general Two-Higgs-Doublet Model, we obtain results on the spin analyzing coefficients for this decay and study in detail its spin phenomenology, focusing on the limits of large and small values for tan β. Using a Monte Carlo approach to simulate full hadron-level events, we evaluate systematically how the H± → τ±ντ decay mode can be used for spin analysis. The most promising observables are obtained from azimuthal angle correlations in the transverse rest frames of t(). This method is particularly useful for determining the coupling structure of H± in the large tan β limit, where differences from the SM are most significant.

    We discuss the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation. In addition to the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) with universal soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters at the GUT scale, we explore non-universal Higgs mass models (NUHM) where this universality condition is relaxed. To identify the allowed parameter space regions, we apply constraints from direct searches, low energy observables, and cosmology. We find that values of the charged Higgs mass as low as mH+ 135 GeV can be accommodated in the NUHM models, but that several flavor physics observables disfavor large H+ contributions, associated with high tan β, quite independently of MSSM scenario. We confront the constrained scenarios with the discovery potentials reported by ATLAS and CMS, and find that the current exclusion by indirect constraints is similar to the expected LHC discovery reach with 30 fb−1 of data. Finally, we evaluate the sensitivity of the presented discovery potential to the choice of MSSM benchmark scenario. This sensitivity is found to be higher in the case of a light (mH+ < mt) charged Higgs.

    We examine three versions of non-relativistic electrodynamics, known as the electric and magnetic limit theories of Maxwell's equations and Galilean electrodynamics (GED) which is the off-shell non-relativistic limit of Maxwell plus a free scalar field. For each of these three cases we study the couplings to non-relativistic dynamical charged matter (point particles and charged complex scalars). The GED theory contains besides the electric and magnetic potentials a so-called mass potential making the mass parameter a local function. The electric and magnetic limit theories can be coupled to twistless torsional Newton-Cartan geometry while GED can be coupled to an arbitrary torsional Newton-Cartan background. The global symmetries of the electric and magnetic limit theories on flat space consist in any dimension of the infinite dimensional Galilean conformal algebra and a U(1) current algebra. For the on-shell GED theory this symmetry is reduced but still infinite dimensional, while off-shell only the Galilei algebra plus two dilatations remain. Hence one can scale time and space independently, allowing Lifshitz scale symmetries for any value of the critical exponent z.

    We construct 4D N = 2 theories on an infinite family of 4D toric manifolds with the topology of connected sums of S-2 x S-2. These theories are constructed through the dimensional reduction along a non -trivial U(1) -fiber of 5D theories on toric Sasaki Einstein manifolds. We discuss the conditions under which such reductions can be carried out and give a partial classification result of the resulting 4D manifolds. We calculate the partition functions of these 4D theories and they involve both instanton and anti-instanton contributions, thus generalizing Pestun's famous result on S-4.

    Abstract [en]

    A Vaidya type geometry describing gravitation collapse in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime with hyperscaling violation provides a simple holographic model for thermalization near a quantum critical point with non-trivial dynamic and hyperscaling violation exponents. The allowed parameter regions are constrained by requiring that the matter energy momentum tensor satisfies the null energy condition. We present a combination of analytic and numerical results on the time evolution of holographic entanglement entropy in such backgrounds for different shaped boundary regions and study various scaling regimes, generalizing previous work by Liu and Suh.

    Abstract [en]

    We compute the elliptic genus of abelian 2d (0; 2) gauge theories corresponding to brane brick models. These theories are worldvolume theories on a single D1-brane probing a toric Calabi-Yau 4-fold singularity. We identify a match with the elliptic genus of the non-linear sigma model on the same Calabi-Yau background, which is computed using a new localization formula. The matching implies that the quantum effects do not drastically alter the correspondence between the geometry and the 2d (0; 2) gauge theory. In theories whose matter sector suffers from abelian gauge anomaly, we propose an ansatz for an anomaly cancelling term in the integral formula for the elliptic genus. We provide an example in which two brane brick models related to each other by Gadde-Gukov-Putrov triality give the same elliptic genus.

    Abstract [en]

    We introduce a new duality for N = 1 supersymmetric gauged matrix models. This 0d duality is an order 4 symmetry, namely an equivalence between four different theories, hence we call it Quadrality. Our proposal is motivated by mirror symmetry, but is not restricted to theories with a D-brane realization and holds for general A = 1 matrix models. We present various checks of the proposal, including the matching of: global symmetries, anomalies, deformations and the chiral ring. We also consider quivers and the corresponding quadrality networks. Finally, we initiate the study of matrix models that arise on the worldvolume of D(-1)-branes probing toric Calabi-Yau 5-folds.

    We consider the scalar operators corresponding to semiclassical string states in AdS5 × S5 with the three angular momenta in S5 non-trivial. The string states recieve quantum corrections and we study the corresponding process on the gauge theory side. The anomalous dimension of the scalar operators is computed using the Bethe ansatz and we find the correction that corresponds to the energy of the quantized string. We restrict for simplicity to the case where two of the angular momenta in S5 are equal.

    We study operators in the sl(2) sector of N=4 SYM in the generalised scaling limit, where the spin is large and the length of the operator scales with the logarithm of the spin. At leading order in the large spin expansion the scaling dimension at strong coupling is given in terms of the free energy of the O(6) model. We investigate the first subleading corrections to the scaling dimension and find that these too can be derived from the O(6) model in the strong coupling limit.

    Abstract [en]

    We study spiky strings in the context of the SL(2) Bethe ansatz equations. We find an asymmetric distribution of Bethe roots along one cut that determines the all loop anomalous dimension at leading and subleading orders in a large S expansion. At leading order in strong coupling (large lambda) we obtain that the energy of such states is given, in terms of the spin S and the number of spikes n by E-S=n sqrt{lambda}/(2 pi) (ln 16 pi S/(n sqrt{lambda})+ ln sin (pi/n) - 1)+ O(ln S/S). This result matches perfectly the same expansion obtained from the known spiky string classical solution. We then discuss a two cut spiky string Bethe root distribution at one-loop in the SL(2) Bethe ansatz. In this case we find a limit where n goes to infinity, keeping (E+S)/n^2, (E-S)/n, J/n fixed. This is the one loop version of a limit previously considered in the context of the string classical solutions in AdS5 x S5. In that case it was related to a string solution in the AdS pp-wave background.

    We identify the gauge theory dual of a spinning string of minimal energy with spins S-1, S-2 on AdS(5) and charge J on S-5. For this purpose we focus on a certain set of local operators with two different types of covariant derivatives acting on complex scalar fields. We analyse the corresponding nested Bethe equations for the ground states in the limit of large spins. The auxiliary Bethe roots form certain string configurations in the complex plane, which enable us to derive integral equations for the leading and sub leading contribution to the anomalous dimension. The results can be expressed through the observables of the sl(2) sub-sector, i.e. the cusp anomaly f(g) and the virtual scaling function B-L(g), rendering the strong-coupling analysis straightforward. Furthermore, we also study a particular sub-class of these operators specialising to a scaling limit with finite values of the second spin at weak and strong coupling.

    We define “BPS graphs” on punctured Riemann surfaces associated with AN −1 theories of class S. BPS graphs provide a bridge between two powerful frameworks for studying the spectrum of BPS states: spectral networks and BPS quivers. They arise from degenerate spectral networks at maximal intersections of walls of marginal stability on the Coulomb branch. While the BPS spectrum is ill-defined at such intersections, a BPS graph captures a useful basis of elementary BPS states. The topology of a BPS graph encodes a BPS quiver, even for higher-rank theories and for theories with certain partial punctures. BPS graphs lead to a geometric realization of the combinatorics of Fock-Goncharov N - triangulations and generalize them in several ways.

    We construct new representations of tree-level amplitudes in D-dimensional gauge theories with deformations via higher-mass-dimension operators αF3 and α2F4. Based on Berends-Giele recursions, the tensor structure of these amplitudes is compactly organized via off-shell currents. On the one hand, we present manifestly cyclic representations, where the complexity of the currents is systematically reduced. On the other hand, the duality between color and kinematics due to Bern, Carrasco and Johansson is manifested by means of non-linear gauge transformations of the currents. We exploit the resulting notion of Bern-Carrasco-Johansson gauge to provide explicit and manifestly local double-copy representations for gravitational amplitudes involving αR2 and α2R3 operators.

    We consider the monodromy matrix for the pure spinor IIB superstring on AdS5 × S5 at leading order at strong coupling, in particular its variation under an infinitesimal and continuous deformation of the contour. Such variation is equivalent to the insertion of a local operator. Demanding the BRST-closure for such an operator rules out its existence, implying that the monodromy matrix remains contour-independent at the first order in perturbation theory. Furthermore we explicitly compute the field strength corresponding to the flat connections up to leading order and directly check that it is free from logarithmic divergences. The absence of anomaly in the coordinate transformation of the monodromy matrix and the UV-finiteness of the curvature tensor finally imply the integrability of the pure spinor superstring at the first order.

    We compute the perturbative partition functions for gauge theories with eight supersymmetries on spheres of dimension d <= 5, proving a conjecture by the second author. We apply similar methods to gauge theories with four supersymmetries on spheres with d <= 3. The results are valid for non-integer d as well. We further propose an analytic continuation from d = 3 to d = 4 that gives the perturbative partition function for an N = 1 gauge theory. The results are consistent with the free multiplets and the one-loop beta-functions for general N = 1 gauge theories. We also consider the analytic continuation of an N = 1 preserving mass deformation of the maximally supersymmetric gauge theory and compare to recent holographic results for N = 1* super Yang-Mills. We find that the general structure for the real part of the free energy coming from the analytic continuation is consistent with the holographic results.

    In the partonic (or light-front) description of relativistic systems the electromagnetic form factors are expressed in terms of frame-independent charge and magnetization densities in transverse space. This formulation allows one to identify the chiral components of nucleon structure as the peripheral densities at transverse distances b = O(M-pi(-1)) and compute them in a parametrically controlled manner. A dispersion relation connects the large-distance behavior of the transverse charge and magnetization densities to the spectral functions of the Dirac and Pauli form factors near the two-pion threshold at time-like t = 4M(pi)(2), which can be computed in relativistic chiral effective field theory. Using the leading-order approximation we (a) derive the asymptotic behavior (Yukawa tail) of the isovector transverse densities in the "chiral" region b = O(M-pi(-1)) and the "molecular" region b = O(M-N(2)/M-pi(3)); (b) perform the heavy-baryon expansion of the transverse densities; (c) explain the relative magnitude of the peripheral charge and magnetization densities in a simple mechanical picture; (d) include Delta isobar intermediate states and study the peripheral transverse densities in the large-N-c limit of QCD; (e) quantify the region of transverse distances where the chiral components of the densities are numerically dominant; (f) calculate the chiral divergences of the b(2)-weighted moments of the isovector transverse densities (charge and anomalous magnetic radii) in the limit M-pi -> 0 and determine their spatial support. Our approach provides a concise formulation of the spatial structure of the nucleon's chiral component and offers new insights into basic properties of the chiral expansion. It relates the information extracted from low-t elastic form factors to the generalized parton distributions probed in peripheral high-energy scattering processes.

    The nucleon's electromagnetic form factors are expressed in terms of the transverse densities of charge and magnetization at fixed light-front time. At peripheral transverse distances b - O(M-pi(-1)) the densities are governed by chiral dynamics anti can be calculated model-independently using chiral effective field theory (EFT). We represent the leading-order chiral EFT results for the peripheral transverse densities as overlap integrals of chiral light-front wave functions, describing the transition of the initial nucleon to soft pion-nucleon intermediate states and back. The new representation (a) explains the parametric order of the peripheral transverse densities; (b) establishes an inequality between the spin-independent and -dependent densities; (c) exposes the role of pion orbital angular momentum in chiral dynamics; (d) reveals a large left-right asymmetry of the current in a transversely polarized nucleon and suggests a simple interpretation. The light-front representation enables a first-quantized, quantum-mechanical view of chiral dynamics that is fully relativistic and exactly equivalent to the second-quantized, field-theoretical formulation. It relates the charge and magnetization densities measured in low-energy elastic scattering to the generalized parton distributions probed in peripheral high-energy scattering processes. The method can be applied to nucleon form factors of other operators, e.g. the energy-momentum tensor.
