    Detta arbete har jag skrivit i samarbete  med företaget Färdig Betong(FB) som tillverkar plattbärlag, dvs förtillverkade betongelement till bjälklag i hus. Till största del handlar arbetet om mängd och tid dvs. om och när fabrikerna kan leverera.   Jag tittade även på lagrets inverkan på produktionen. Det visade sig att obalans i lagret hade  oönskade effekter, såsom brist på ritningar vid för stort lager och riskerad leveranssäkerhet vid för litet lager .  Jag försökte hitta en formel som tog hänsyn till både aktuell produktion och lagret vid ett beslut om order. Efter olika försök så kom jag fram till en formel som uppfyllde de olika kriterierna.  I beläggningsplaneringen har varje projekt en rad och antalet m 2  lades in  på de aktuella  veckorna. En undersökning på byggarbetsplatserna visade att de planerade i större leveransdelar än m 2 . Detta gav mig iden att planera produktionen och leveranserna på ett liknande sätt.  FB utryckte önskemål om att uppnå en  högre precision under planeringsprocessen. Jag utvecklade då ett gränssnitt för produktionsplaneringen som de tror kan höja precisionen.

    Abstract [en]

    Quality assurance of construction projects and create effective ways of working, is intoday's pressed position, major objectives for building contractor companies. This thesis is an attempt to see if it is possible to achieve these goals with the new modern tool iPad.

    The author of this thesis has during the latter half of his one year practice work in Uppsala for the Swedish building construction company NCC Construction Sverige AB, conducted a study on the possibility of using the iPad on an construction site. This has been done with active field studies in which applications have been tested and also the supervisors receptive. The usability of the iPad has always been in focus since it is important that the applications are easy to use and easy to learn.

    The results of the work, as presented in this report, points at opportunities in efficiency if the iPad is introduced and used on construction site. There are many useful applications for the iPad, and with a system that can handle the synchronization between the iPad and the computer, the workflow will be streamlined significantly.

    Two subjects in building technology that is becoming increasingly important is theHVAC and BIM. If these could be combined in a good way, the efficiency and thequality of our buildings may be increased. Because BIM is a relatively new technologywith a new approach, it has not yet had an impact in the HVAC design. But it hasrecently started to turn up software that can handle BIM in the HVAC designindustry. Contact was established with consultancy Bengt Dahlgren AB, which wantedto have an evaluation of this new way to design HVAC-systems. The purpose of thisstudy is therefore to answer the question: Can there, on today's market, be beneficialfor a company with high competence and experience in designing/constructingHVAC-systems with traditional CAD-software to make the investment required tomove to a BIM-based option. This was answered through interviews, surveys,comparisons of software and literature studies. The conclusion was that the HVACand Plumbing industry is not yet ready to implement full BIM because the softwareand and available technology´s is not enough developed and fully functional. But it isthe futures technology, and the company has to be prepared and skill level must bewithin the company if they want to compete on the market of the future.

    Abstract [en]

    Land development can cause a great deal of excessive soil masses due to shafting. The total volume of excessive soil is many times transported to a landfill, causing gas emissions, use of natural resources and a significant economical cost.

    In a land development project in the area of Johannelund in Stockholm much of the soil masses were planned to be reused instead. To overview the soil quality and decide on what soil masses to reuse and where an Environmental 3D Model for Land Development was used by the City of Stockholm. This means a 3D Model based on soil samples, geotechnical investigations and planned shafting. When the work with this thesis begun the Project Johannelund was already planned and the 3D Model had been created, but the land development had yet not been started.

    The aim of this thesis was to decide if Environmental 3D Models should be used in future land development projects, and the goals were to evaluate the model, give advice on future use and to investigate the possibilities to reuse soil masses. A case study of the environmental and economical effects of reusing soil masses in the Project Johannelund was done. Public authorities and stakeholders were interviewed and advices on how to use Environmental 3D Models were given, this includes the data needed to create a model as well as a suggested way of work. The information is based on calculations, personal experience with the 3D Model and interviews with people involved in the Project Johannelund.

    The evaluation of the Project Johannelund showed that the reuse of soil masses reduced the costs of transports and land fill fees with 67 %, and the gas emissions from transports with 85 %. The opinions of public authorities and stakeholders vary greatly. Advices on how to use the Environmental 3D Model includes a thorough database and that the staff will need support in order to use the 3D Model properly.

    3D Models are used to a larger and larger extent in Urban Management. There are economical and environmental benefits with using the Environmental 3D Model for a more efficient project planning and communication. The City of Stockholm is recommended to use the 3D Model in future land development projects with heterogeneous soil contamination and a large volume of expected excessive soil masses.

    Abstract [en]

    This diploma work addresses the question of how much energy is spent whenmanufacturing the components of a building as well as of how much energy is used inthe production of a building. The object of the studies is BioCentrum at the SwedishUniversity of Agricultural Sciences in Ultuna just outside the city of Uppsala. The aimof the work was to investigate how much energy was consumed when manufacturingand production in relation to the management, how many years the production wasrepresented. It was also a study in how mature the construction industry is to answerhow much energy was consumed in manufacturing.In order to get these answers a question form was developed and sent to thesuppliers to BioCentrum. In this form they were to respond to the quantity suppliedto BioCentrum and the amount of energy was spent when manufacturing thecomponents. Unfortunately the response rate was very low and we instead had toseek information on the internet. This was done by using building productdeclarations. With a list of the quantities used in the building, received from NCC, theenergy was calculated.The result of this investigation shows that the construction industry needs a fewmore years to mature before they can fully respond to this. But with the values wegot from the suppliers and our own calculations, we concluded that the manufacturingand production represents 3.5 years of the management of the building. This wascompared with the projected energy consumption of 124 kWh/m2, year.

    Abstract [en]

    The design regulations of Boverket (BKR) have long been the mandatory standard for construction design in Sweden. However from the end of the year 2010, the BKR will be replaced by the European standard Eurocode (EC). The transition to EC has been delayed and it is not until the second of May 2011 that the use of EC will be mandatory. Because EC and BKR differ from each other it is highly interesting to investigate and explain these differences.

    The purpose of the thesis is to compare the two standards and investigate how they give different results or not for the dimensioning of structures of steel with associated loads. The current project HVC (Pets Science Center) in Uppsala is used as a model for the design of the steel structure used in this study. The investigation is divided into two parts: the calculation of loads and the dimensioning of the steel structure. The internal forces in the construction that are used for the dimensioning are calculated with finite element programs (FEM-programs). The calculations for the comparison of the dimensioning of the steel structure are thereafter calculated by hand according to the current standard of each. Eurocode 3 (EC 3) is the current standard for EC and for BKR the current standard is the handbook for steel structures (BSK 07). The compared parts are:

    •the control of flexural buckling of a framework brace towards compression force and bending,

    •the control of a framework brace towards tension force and bending,

    •the control of a column against compression by a pure normal force,

    •and the control of a welded joint between a framework brace and an underlying beam.

    The results from the dimensioning are presented separately in the report and show that in almost all cases of design a lower grade of utilization is obtained for EC 3 than BSK 07. The largest obtained difference is when the dimensioning of a framework brace towards compression force and bending is made there the relationship between the utilization rates are 0,80. The results show that dimensioning according to EC 3 probably will lead to decreased costs within the construction sector, mainly in materials because smaller dimensions are required.

    This study investigates three different methods for evaluating MOE,Modulus of Elasticity, in field measurements. The purpose is toinvestigate the possibility to use dynamic measurement methods infield measurements that hitherto (2010) has been performed with staticmethods. The objects of investigation are 20 glulam beams. The firstfield measurement took place in november 2007 and applied a staticmethod based on the standard SS-EN 408. The second measurement,described in this study, took place during summer 2010, and appliedstatic as well as dynamic methods.The MOE of wood is affected by a range different factors. Thesefactors may, due to the complex structure of wood and itsenvironmental response, be very difficult to quantify. Moreover, theaccuracy of each method plays an essential role in evaluating theresults. These conditions altogether make field measurements of MOE acomplex problem.The results show that the average MOE is 97,9% (2010) of the initialaverage MOE 100% (2007). Six of the 20 glulam beams exhibit,somewhat unexpectedly, a higher MOE. This result calls for furtherstudies of the accuracy of the static method.Temperature and moisture content are factors that affect MOE. Sincethese factors differ between measurements made during winter (2007)and summer (2010), it is furthermore recommended to establish arelationship between temperature, moisture content and MOE forspruce (picea abies) and pine (pinus sylvestris) in order to justly comparemeasurements made during different environmental conditions.There is reason to believe, that certain measurement errors arise withthe use of static methods. Possible errors using static methods may, incertain cases, be brought to the surface and questioned by dynamicmethods. Dynamic measurements may also be seen as a verification ofthe results of static measurements.The group of beams treated with oil show a high correlation betweenstatic and dynamic methods, which is an indication that the static anddynamic methods can be approximated. Beams treated with coatinggenerally display a higher MOE in dynamic compared to staticmethods. This may be due to the fact that the coating is included in thedensity, without contributing to the MOE of the beam.Recommendations for future measurements are continued use ofstatic and dynamic methods and evaluations of the accuracy of thesemethods. For dynamic methods, the relationship of coating and density,ivand resonance frequencies should also be evaluated. It is essential totake into account that the reliability of different measurement methodsdue to deterioration of wood, in a long- time perspective might change.

    Abstract [en]

    A survey made by Svensk Byggtjänst (Swedish Building Information Service)concludes that communication plays an important role in the constructionindustry and that it has a great potential of improvement. This diploma workshows that significant savings can be made in the construction industry andespecially in the field of production. This thesis describes how communicationtakes place at two different construction sites belonging to the Swedish buildingconstruction company Skanska. According to the interviews carried out at theconstruction sites, we realized that the majority of problems were sprung out ofa lack of clarity in communication. A literature study has been performed andsince communication is a wide topic, this study has been confined to thefollowing subtopics: Leadership, Project, Meetings and Language. With theseheadlines in mind, interviews were conducted. The aim was to find out howcommunication works at work sites in the construction industry and how theworkers experienced the communication within the field of production.The study shows that savings can be achieved through increased awareness ofcommunication as a tool and to actively improve interpersonal communication.

    Uppsala like many other Swedish cities is affected by heavy housing shortage, in terms of too few existing flats and residents within the city limits. Every semester thousands of new students are facing the same problems of finding themselves adequate accommodation. The waiting lists for flats and student-dorms are getting longer for each year, and the situation is just getting worse. Simultaneously, Uppsala’s ambition is to increase its population and expand as a Swedish metropolitan, according to the Swedish governmental environment goals.

     

    This paper investigates and analyses the possibilities of expanding a city’s population by building high-rise buildings. A city developed with high-rise buildings will provide different conditions and penalties than what we have formerly been used to in Sweden. Therefore we have analysed the eventual outcome in a few different areas which would most likely be affected by an upcoming progress including constructions of high-rise buildings. The examined areas are production costs, energy efficacy, cityscape and community related issues. To set clear boundaries regarding the reports extent, we have chosen to focus on Uppsala as a city in particular. Ultimately, the results of different studies and comparisons have been discussed with the origin of promoting the benefits of different solutions. The report reveals that high-rise constructions could contribute with considerably more positive outcomes than people without deep understanding within the subject could possibly imagine. Other, more social related questions in this context need attention as well. For example: How would it work on a practical level for the inhabitants of Uppsala if the buildings suddenly were a lot higher than what they used to be? Would these buildings take attention away from the Uppsala castle and the cathedral? Would Uppsala even remain a pleasant place to live in? Questions such as these together with other social related issues have been discussed in this report as well. The report has been carried out in collaboration with the building contractor JM AB, from which data and information on various intervals have been taken.

    This report is a result of a diplomawork in construction engineering.The goal of this thesis is to highlighthow the work with planning andperformance management is done in theprojects at the Swedish buildingcontractor Skanska Väg & anläggning,region Stockholm/Mälardalen, districtMark Stockholm North, compared toSkanska’s policies.The comparison was made with focus onfive tools for productivity. The toolsare as follow: broken-down schedule,work sets, visual control, performancemanagement/progress monitoring and bestpractice.The study showed that the usage of thedifferent tools varied both within andbetween the different projects.Practically none of the projects whereusing the tools progress monitoring andbest practice, mostly due to fewoperations being applicable. The worksets are now mostly documented, but theyare rarely followed up. Performancemanagement is somewhat inconsequentialfor the moment, but during 2011 targetsheets will be introduced, withtemplates for setting up targets.Scheduling is one of the most importantworks regarding planning. Not only toget the progress running smoothly, butalso as an economic and contractdocument. Important is that the scheduleis up to date and approved and thatthose who work with them are familiarwith the programs being used.

    Abstract [en]

    Everyone has to take a greater responsibility in energy issues, both individuals and companies. There have been some major developments in the construction industry but there is still a lot to be done.

     

    This diploma work thesis presents different methods of making existing construction shed establishments to use less energy. What is possible to do and how much energy is there to be saved? A shed establishment consisting of 8 shed units were studied in this project and the building simulation tool VIP-Energy was used to simulate different types of material in the sheds. An infrared camera was used to locate thermal bridges.

     

    There are several factors that can be improved to make a construction shed establishment to use less energy. Replacement of old windows and doors, using more insulation, replacement of old less efficient insulation with new improved materials, using a different heating system, and more. One factor, which is more important than all the others, is to insulate between the 8 different shed units in the establishment. It is also important to make the construction wind proof.

     

    The results show that if you replace the old wall and roof insulation with new better insulation, replace the old windows and doors and seal the gaps between the shed units the total energy reduction would be as high as 60%. All companies working with the handling or utilization of shed establishments at building sites should consider these improvements.

    This report discusses the constructionof different types of exterior wallconstructions and analyses wall layers.Standard wall constructions from theSwedish building contractors NCC andSkanska and also from the materialproducer Isover have been chosen for theresearch. Life cycle cost analysis hasbeen made to conclude the mostprofitable wall type, seen from asustainable and economic perspective.The calculations have been made for aperiod of 50 years.The report shows that building with wellinsulated walls is a more profitablesolution both economically and whatconcerns sustainability even though thehigher investment. However, when wallssimilar insulation properties are beingcompared, the study proves that lowerinvestment cost is more profitable.The report introduces requiredconstruction techniques of walls inorder that the reader should understandwall constructions with different layersand properties. The essay shows theimportance of properly constructed wallsto avoid air leakage and moisturedamage.The essay has been implemented byliterature studies, contacts with NCCand Skanska and by energy calculationsmade by hand and using the software VIPEnergy.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis the principles that govern the internal rent for a group of retirement homes in Enköping municipality is examined. Also the operation and maintenance cost levels are compared to other municipal-owned homes for the elderly in the rest of Sweden. Facility managers in Enköping municipality today consider the internal rent to be on a too low level. Therefore they cannot maintain the houses to the extent they consider necessary. 

    A comparison of the maintenance costs, media consumption, management expenses and several other expenses against the statistics from all of Sweden makes it possible to form an opinion on the current level. 

    The internal rent has been examined in two ways. First, by examining how well the municipality administration follows its own directives and policy documents and, secondly, by comparing the governing document with the available literature. 

    Key comparison shows that Enköping historically have had low amounts of both planned and unplanned maintenance expenses. A change has occurred in recent years and maintenance costs have increased significantly when large maintenance needs have arisen. Their written policy on internal rent has basically not been updated since it was written in 1990. This thesis culminates in a recommendation to both the municipal administration and facility management. They must begin to monitor key indicators and measure effectiveness. Municipal leaders need to update and establish guidelines for internal rent. If the amount of maintenance is raised to an acceptable level the rent also needs to be raised to avoid a deficit.
