Uppsala University Art Collections: Painting and Sculpture2001 (ed. 1)Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

In 1859 the first printed catalogue of the Uppsala University art collections was published. Since then the collections has grown conciderably and the present catalogue features approximately 1600 paintings and 200 sculptures. The drawings, engravings, textiles, furniture and other works of decorative art, plaster casts from antique originals and the Augsburg Art Cabinet will become the subject of a second volume.

The idea for this publication emanates from Thomas Heinemann, former University Keeper of Antiquities, who has directed this project as its chief editor. The Editorial Committee also included Mikael Ahlund and Karin Sidén, curators at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, and Daniel Werkmäster, Uppsala University.

The Editorial Committee have chosen to present in greater detail a select number of works, 124 in all, which have been judged of particular interest. These works are presented in 107 newly written essays with full-page illutrations. A total of 42 university and museum experts, mostly in Sweden but in some cases from abroad, were engaged for this purpose.
