Uppsala universitet äger en av Sveriges största konstsamlingar. I korta essäer presenteras här ett rikt urval av de konstverk som visas i Gustavianum, Uppsala universitetsmuseum – från medeltid till nutid. Essäerna berättar även om det berömda konstskåpet från Augsburg som med sina tusen föremål kom till Sverige i början av 1600-talet.

Uppsala University owns one of Sweden’s largest art collections. Through short essays, a rich selection of artworks displayed at Gustavianum, Uppsala University Museum, is presented in this book – spanning the medieval period to the present day. The essays also tell the story of the famous Art Cabinet from Augsburg, which, with its thousand items, arrived in Sweden in the early 17th century.

This article is based on a presentation at the Coimbra Heritage Meeting, held in Coimbra 7–8 November 2019. It concerns the different roles of the Gustavianum, the Uppsala University Museum, and discusses the various missions of the museum – to make the collections available as a resource for research and education, and at the same time serve as a public museum. It also discusses the use of digital media and the production of travelling exhibitions as a means to achieve these goals.
