Title [sv]
Konsortiet för kristallkemi, C3
Title [en]
The Consortium for Crystal Chemistry, C3
Abstract [sv]
The consortium C3 aims at creating an environment for Crystal Chemistry for a future generation of structural chemists in an alliance between Uppsala University (coord.) and Stockholm University. The goal is to ensure competence development and knowledge transfer and to perform cutting edge crystal chemistry science for dynamic systems in technical relevant materials (batteries, fuel cells and hydrogen storage) as well as for complex crystal structures for a number of different materials (porous materials, zeolites, intermetallics, low dimensional compounds, quasicrystals etc.) with the use of synchrotron radiation or neutron scattering. The German collaboration will be vital for the development of new techniques and advanced structure solutions. It is the tuneability of the synchrotron beam and the high intensity that is attractive for material science. Synchrotron facilities over the world will be used, but collaboration around PETRA III will be the main target for development of in situ techniques. The very high energies that can be reached at PETRA III will allow for anomalous X-ray scattering experiments even for heavy elements such as gold, enabling the analysis of chemical order in compounds. The budget is focused on three different areas: annual work shops for the German-Sweden community, development of internationally and nationally open work shops, summer schools and PhD. courses and for support for one young researcher and three PhD. students.
