Abstract [sv]
The aim of the project is to create PCA BASE SWEDEN- a resource for prostate cancer (Pca) research with high resolution data on tumour characteristics in combination with high-quality microdata from a number of renowned national registries. We will optimize the use of the National prostate cancer Register (NPCR) in Sweden - a database that includes detailed clinical information on 81 195 cases of prostate cancer (Pca) i.e. 98% of all men in Sweden diagnosed with Pca from 1998 and onwards. NPCR will be linked with The Follow-up study of NPCR, including blood collection, Swedish Cancer Register, Inpatient Register, Cause of Death Register, Register of Prescribed Pharmaceuticals, Multi-Generation Register, Register of the total Population and population changes, National Diabetes Register, LISA longitudinal database on socioeconomic factors, Hernia Register, Construction workers cohort, and Riks-HIA. The created data set will allow for studies on clinical outcome, adherence to medical treatment, adverse effects of cancer treatment, association between blood pressure, body size, drug use and prostate cancer risk, genetic association and risk of progression. NPCR has previously been used on its own in descriptive studies, and in genetic studies in Cancer of the prostate in Sweden (CAPS) a case control study within NPCR. PCA BASE SWEDEN will provide an important platform for high quality epidemiological studies on Pca, the most common cancer in Sweden.
