Abstract [en]

As climate change intensifies and regulatory frameworks such as the EU Taxonomy evolve, there is an increased need for companies to assess climate-related risks to critical infrastructure. This study investigates the vulnerability of Uppsala Parkering’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network and rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, comprising around 200 chargers and multiple installations across central Uppsala. A climate risk and vulnerability assessment (CRVA) was carried out to evaluate the potential impacts of extreme weather events, including flooding, downpour and heatwaves. The results show that flooding and downpour poses the greatest risk, potentially causing complete submersion and damage to EV- chargers at certain locations. While extreme heat is expected to have a more limited impact, it may still reduce solar energy production and charger efficiency. The thesis emphasizes the importance of including risks related to downpours, flooding, and extreme heat into the site selection process for EV-chargers and solar PV system installations. It also states the need to enhance the resilience of EV charging infrastructure and to identify high risk areas that are particularly vulnerable to climate-related hazards.
