Abstract [en]

Abstract

Background: Chronic non-cancer pain is common in primary care. Opioids are sometimes usedbut have limited long-term effectiveness and potential side effects. Person-centered,multidisciplinary care can improve pain management and quality of life by focusing onindividual needs and preferences.

Aim: Based on the pilot study Opi-Prim, this project examined whether the outcome measuresused could detect changes in pain-related problems and explored patients’ experiences ofcompleting assessment questionnaires.

Method: Quantitative data from Opi-Prim questionnaires were analyzed for response rates andmissing answers, comparing intervention and control groups descriptively. Qualitative datawere derived from transcribed interviews with intervention participants and analyzed using adescriptive approach to explore patients’ experiences of completing the assessment forms.

Results: The intervention group showed decreased pain intensity and interference (BPI-SF –1.81, –2.75), reduced anxiety and depressive symptoms (GAD-7 –2.25, PHQ-9 –2.75), andincreased self-efficacy in pain management (PSEQ-2 +2.0). Health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) showed mixed changes (TTO +0.212, VAS +7.33, EQ-VAS –2.25). Interviews indicatedthat some patients found the forms easy, while others experienced difficulties, particularly withthe digital format.

Conclusion: Person-centered, team-based care influenced pain-related outcomes and patientexperiences, but data collection methods need better adaptation to individual needs.
