As the number of older international migrants has steadily increased around the world, the study of their civic engagement has been deemed to be an area of investigation worthy of attention. Research on older migrants is, however, still in its infancy even though we know that older people’s civic engagement plays a role in their capacity to experience active and healthy ageing, and civic activities can be a pathway to migrants’ integration. This chapter relies on a meta-analysis of research on migrants’ civic engagement that exposes not only what characterises this research but also the assumptions about migrancy that inform it. The chapter argues that the lacunae of civic engagement research that focuses specifically on older migrants must be addressed not only because we are in dire need of bringing attention to their civic contributions but also because scholarship on civic engagement could benefit from becoming more life-course-informed and migrancy-astute. Thus, this chapter proposes that much could be gained if we were to regard older migrants as a theoretically profuse source of information about civic engagement.
