Abstract [en]

The present article aims to examine the linguistic features of lullaby songs performed by Afro-Baloch singers. The data were collected from different villages in the Sarbaz and Bahukalat–Chabahar regions from various singers without a school education between 2023 and 2026. The corpus consisted of 45 lullaby songs that were transcribed and translated into English. The results demonstrate considerable variation in the style of songs across the two regions. In particular, a professional singer from Bahukalat stands out due to her distinctive syntactic style and highly elaborate song structure. Her songs are comparatively long and composed in a poetic narrative style. In contrast, the songs collected from four singers in the Sarbaz region display a relatively similar style, characterized by shorter structures and extensive repetition. The paper concludes that the outstanding features of the Bahukalat songs may reflect the influence of local poetic traditions, particularly those maintained and transmitted by women within the village community.
